We had heard excellent things about Shavan's from different people but must have hit them on a bad night, with two of our takeaway main meals containing very grisly meat. Entrees and rice were nice though so willing to give them the benefit of the doubt. Will try again.

Really, really good Indian food. Definitely not cheap, but if you're prepared for the cost amazing food.

The food is normally really great. Some of the dishes on the menu are a little strange and different. The service when it's busy and when picking up takeaways is not that great.

Great Food terrible service

We went there for dinner tonight, I arrived at 7PM and sat down. Waiters walking around everywhere but I was never once asked if I wanted a drink. Waiter eventually came over to the table at about 7:45 and took everyone else's orders and walked straight past me. Eventually I had to call them over so I could get some water and order dinner. Took about another hour for dinner to come out and then they only brought my chicken and I had to ask for my rice and naan. Eventually my rice came but still no naan. I had to ask another 5 times to get my nan by which time my chicken was all gone and my rice was cold.

I wouldn't eat at the restaurant again , stick to takeaway

Shavan's now do a Sunday Lunch Buffet 12-3. It's all you can eat and only costing $19.90 for adults and $10.90 for kids. Includes excellent veg and meat dishes, fresh salads, yummy chutnies, dips and bread, and lovely dessert.

Last Sunday was our first time to this restaurant. We booked at 11 and got in at 12. Warm day so not too busy. Were welcomed with a smile and invited to sit where we preferred. The dishes are not in your usual germy buffet. This setup was more what you might expect at the Novotel - clean, well-heated bain-maries and the area was kept clean and well-stocked. Veges were all fresh. Beef and chicken breast were top quality, tender, no skin or bone. Mains included vege noodles, spiced rice onion bhaji, chicken tikka (favourite), butter chicken, dhal, authentic beef and chicken curries and more. The dessert was Gulab Jamun (home make cottage cheese dumpling in aromatic syrup) beautifully balanced with a carefully spiced rice pudding.
We'll certainly be back for more and are recommending it to anyone who enjoys great quality Indian food. For us the service is perfect - friendly and always available, but without being intrusive. What a great introduction to the delights of Shavan's.

I love Shavans! Best Indian this side of town! Can't go wrong with the Mixed Grill! They are professional and friendly and always happy to help. Book early as they book out Friday and Saturday nights

One of the best Indian restaurants I've been to (& I've been to a lot) and definitely the best in the area. Food is divine & great friendly service. It is always busy so book in advance, especially for Fri/Sat nights. Good for takeaway too. Looking forward to trying them in their new location (finally!).

Have eaten take away from this restaurant quite a few times. The food is always very tasty and well cooked. Best to phone order through so you don't have to wait. Travel from North Dandenong to eat their food.

Loved the entrees - I found them to be better than the main courses. The main courses seem to be a little bland and not as tasty as I would like. Staff are very friendly

Lovely food, 10% discount for take-away if you pick it up. Home delivery is also available. I've only had take-away from here but the restaurant always looks clean and inviting, not to mention busy! They have a few special packs that are great value.

Mistakes made with takeaway order and had to wait another half hour for them to get it right and there was no apology or offer to make up for the mistake and making us wait. I have been there every week for 3 years and that made no difference. The restaurant is VERY noisy and always so crowded that it is difficult to walk to your table. The food is good but portion sizes are dropping while prices keep going up. Best Indian food on this side of town but the service is deteriorating. Suspect that they are so popular that individual customers don't matter any more.

This is my family's favourite restaurant: We have been visiting Shavan's for over 10 years both to dine in and for take away. During all those years we have never had a bad meal or bad service. Saturday night can sometimes be a bit of a wait for your meal; but service is always impeccable even during those busy times. The restaurant is unassuming and the décor not as fancy as some; but the food is fresh, tasty and menu choice is superb.

This is by far the best Indian Restaurant I have been to. The restaurant is very basic but the quality of the food is fantastic. It's a nice family restaurant which is good value for money.
