This review is for Brown Rice, Edithvale VIC

verified email - 24 Oct 2013

I am very disappointed this is my first negative review on WOMO. Living around the corner and hearing all the positive comments about Brown Rice, we went with high expectations for the first time last night.
The service was above average because we had water on table without asking and the orders were taken soon and food came quickly at 6pm in an almost empty restaurant. The waiting staff were very pleasant.
Quality-wise the best thing was the authentic decorations and cutlery and the artistry put into the plate up.
Our satay beef came out barely above room temperature and with very little satay sauce and lots of decorative lettuce and ornamental noodles to make it look like it was worth $20. Similar story with the seafood pad thai. Very little seafood, with the calamari rings almost raw. The underlying noodles of the pad thai were quite good although there wasn't much hidden under the obligatory blanket of arty lettuce and inedible yellow noodle strands.
The coconut rice was nice, but a bit rich at $4 per person.
The restaurant did fill up quickly, and we felt quite comfortable in the middle bogan crowd with lots of kids. Maybe we've been spoilt by the good inexpensive restaurants in our old stomping ground of Glen Waverley and Melbourne CBD. We need to understand that we're now in a captive market area with little variety or competition. We will not be going back to Brown Rice.

This review is for Chelsea Veterinary Clinic, Chelsea VIC

verified email - 24 Oct 2013

We have a very feisty 6yo tortoiseshell. She was due for her annual shots after moving to Edithvale. Previous vet was scared to examine her without expensive, time-consuming sedation (my hands are my living - I am a surgeon after all). So I searched WOMO and found Dr Zeljko Jovanovic at Chelsea vet clinic. The cat is totally docile with us but just hates vets and is very controlling and hissy to them.
Zeljko understands how animals tick, and our cat understood that he understood it and behaved a bit better. We hope they will become friends over the years.
Quality and service are excellent. Vet and staff are all gentle, caring and efficient and will take time to answer questions, etc. Very modern, well-equipped practice with old-fashioned values. Their pricing is competitive compared to other vets we've used. They also to pensioner discounts. Open late Mon Tue Thu Fri.

This review is for Shavan's Tandoori Indian Restaurant, Patterson Lakes VIC

Shavan's now do a Sunday Lunch Buffet 12-3. It's all you can eat and only costing $19.90 for adults and $10.90 for kids. Includes excellent veg and meat dishes, fresh salads, yummy chutnies, dips and bread, and lovely dessert.

Last Sunday was our first time to this restaurant. We booked at 11 and got in at 12. Warm day so not too busy. Were welcomed with a smile and invited to sit where we preferred. The dishes are not in your usual germy buffet. This setup was more what you might expect at the Novotel - clean, well-heated bain-maries and the area was kept clean and well-stocked. Veges were all fresh. Beef and chicken breast were top quality, tender, no skin or bone. Mains included vege noodles, spiced rice onion bhaji, chicken tikka (favourite), butter chicken, dhal, authentic beef and chicken curries and more. The dessert was Gulab Jamun (home make cottage cheese dumpling in aromatic syrup) beautifully balanced with a carefully spiced rice pudding.
We'll certainly be back for more and are recommending it to anyone who enjoys great quality Indian food. For us the service is perfect - friendly and always available, but without being intrusive. What a great introduction to the delights of Shavan's.

This review is for Gardeners Gate Nursery, Keysborough VIC

verified email - 18 Oct 2013

New to the area and neighbour took me to see Gardeners Gate Nursery. A unique business. Really smart people - e.g. plant pest advice, landscaping advice. Good variety of very healthy plants, most of which they grow themselves. A truly green business that likes to use natural solutions in preference to pushing huge amount of chemicals e.g advised to use white pepper to deter cabbage moth - also safer approach for pets. Easy parking and large undercover area as well as outdoors. Heaps of fruit tree varieties. Don't forget to bring a bottle - this nursery gives away free up to 2 litres of "home brew" liquid fertilizer from a tank near the car park.

Stopped in on a whim. For the price didn't expect much, but this place really surprised. I had a seafood nasi goreng and partner had a large sashimi bento box.

The sashimi bento had thick slices of fresh raw salmon, a very generous serve of wafu beef as well as harumaki tofu served with salad and rice.
The nasi goreng was a little spicy and had lots of seafood, egg, peas, bean shoots, capsicum, onion, cabbage, carrot and spring onion mixed in to the rice.

The service was quick and friendly and the quality of the meals was better than other similar places where you paid double the price. The servings were very generous too.

This review is for Absolute Customer Satisfaction, Aspendale Gardens VIC

As seniors, we needed a 3 seater couch and 1 separate lounge chair, all heavy and bulky recliners, taken up a staircase that has a couple of curves. Andrew was recommended to us by our next door neighbour. My partner that this job would take more men, but this team is supremely fit and did the job quickly and with no fuss.

Quality and Service: Excellent. We called ACS in the morning, and Andrew got the job done with one assistant at 7 that evening. Ensured there would be no damage during the move e.g. moving pictures. Helped us take off and put back the rear of the couches before and after the move. Ensured we were 100% satisfied. In fact we were delighted with the service.
Value: ACS provided a very reasonable estimate for the work and did not exceed it. They actually helped us with moving more stuff than initially agreed upstairs without upping the price.
Absolute Customer Service live up to there name. It is a rare quality business which we take pleasure in recommending, especially as they are patient with seniors who just need stuff moved around the house. I wish we had known about ACS when we moved to Edithvale.

This review is for Wasted Rubbish Removal, Melbourne VIC

verified email - 25 Jul 2013

Overview - Approximately 30 cubic meters of timber, garden waste and general rubbish were picked up and taken away as required over several days including a weekend.

Quality - Delivered what was promised, and better than expected given tight deadlines due to property settlement. The site was left clean. Also Wasted are sticklers for maximising recycling of loads.

Service - Paul and Daniel were efficient and pleasant with a very can-do attitude. This made us feel that we had partners in our task as Paul juggled multiple jobs and was available 7 days a week to ensure client deadlines and expectations are met.

Value - Exceptional value and flexibility for large jobs. Sure we could have hired a huge skip, put more time pressure on ourselves, loaded it up in the street. We've done that before. Wasted, with a small premium over what the skip/tipping fees would cost, can back their ute and trailer down a standard driveway, do all the heavy lifting, come back whenever you've identified another load for pickup. This represented excellent value for us. Also Paul provided fixed price up front per cubic metre so no surprises. If Paul felt that a deadline was tight he would bring in Daniel to double the manpower in the available time at no extra charge.

Overall - A good honest business and a pleasure to deal with. It's a relief to find such a competent business head on such young shoulders.

This review is for Bayair Electrics, Cheltenham VIC

The service provided was to move 2 Daikin split system air conditioners from Glen Waverley to Edithvale, one to a downstairs lounge and one to the upstairs main bedroom.

The quality and service could not be faulted. The 3 men turned up early precisely when they said they would at Glen Waverley and quickly deinstalled the units and transported them to Edithvale where they quickly got to work doing the installations. Being a family business, and all qualified in electrics as well, they worked very well together as a team.

There was a lot of work involved and the value was excellent - not only stuck to the quote, but also provided friendly advice on other aspects of the electricals in the house.

Bayair was very careful with the installation of the units. They looked like new because they cleaned and serviced them thouroughly before reinstalling. The piping and cabling was very neat, and not easy to do, particulary upstairs.

Max would not hear of us tidying up, his policy is to leave the house at least as clean as he found it. Drop sheets and vacuum were used extensively.

No problems with certificates for plumbing and electrical safety. The 2 air con units are behaving better now than ever.

This review is for Allshape Sheds, Keysborough VIC

We purchased a large steel shed through Bayside Steel Buildings(sadly now gone) in 2012. Allshape Sheds was engaged by them to erect the structure, and Hans did so with frightening speed and efficiency and cleaned up after himself too.

Allshape Sheds is a shed installer - any size new or second hand. He will also replace sky lights, custom build or do repairs.

I don't know where Hans is based - may well do all of Melbourne - Bayside Steel was based in Keysborough and Hans contracts to a number of shed providers I think.

Better value, quality and service than the chains. Lab and technician on site - fast, efficient service and delivery. Good optometrist - bulk bills thorough eye exam and visual field test if needed. Accurate script. Large range. Negotiable on price. After sales adjustments, no problem including offer to change tint level on lenses if needed.
