I regularly shop at the Camberwell markets, but they have been closed for renovations recently. I thought I'd try South Melbourne instead, and have been VERY impressed! It's so vast, with so many quality merchants. Special mention to Babe's Eggs. Will still be back to Camberwell in Feb, but will be sure to drop by South Melbourne for a few things you just can't get anywhere else.

We just adore buying our food here. On Saturday I purchased a croissant from the deli shop right at the end of the food section (opposite the pasta and sauces place in the corner) and it was easily the best one I've ever had. The atmosphere, the selection, and the quality makes it my favourite market in Melbourne. My partner and I go just as much for the experience than anything else. Parking can be an issue so we go a little bit later in the morning once the first wave has calmed down a bit

We love this place. We go every week for our food and vegetables. You can virtually find everything you require and you can always get a car park on the roof which is free for the first two hours.

The Fruit & Vegetable, meat, fish and deli sections are my favourite. I save a fortune buying fresh produce here rather than at supermarkets, particularly if you buy the specials. THe quality is much better too. Parking is pretty good too.

Most of the stores are great value and good quality. The cafe called Sweet Agora - a store to steer clear from, expect extremely rude service. Have attempted to be served several times and the staff just ignore you! The meat and vegie stores are all good quality. There is options for organic foods too, and there are clothing, books, flowers, furniture, nic-knacks, art supplies and more.

It is a relief that Sweet Agora is now Padre Coffee- much better service and much better coffee!

Did you know that The Merchant of Fairness Bookshop is still at the South Melbourne Market after more than 25 years? It is the original location of this wonderful Bookshop (see entry in WOMOW). You can have books purchased from Balwyn delivered to South Melbourne for cobnvenient pick-up. Rare collectible books are the Merchant's specialty but he has tens of thousands of books. Seeing is believing.
