I found the wait to get the car on the boat a long process with a child. The cabins are comfortable but limited things to keep children entertained on board, although being only a night I wasn't expecting lots. Glad I booked a cabin, the recliners don't look overly comfortable to be sleeping in.

I went on spirit of Tasmania for the first time in January. I found that there isnt a lot to keep children entertained when you first get on the boat of a night. The cinema is playing movies for adults by 10pm and the arcade room as a few arcade games in it that cost $2 a go. They do offer portable dvd players to hire but again at a cost. I find it is very expensive for a family to travel on spirit with the fares being a lot more expensive than airfares and then having to pay to use arcade room or dvd players. I did find the staff very helpful when booking the trip and also on the boat.

I have done this trip both ways a few times now. I have 2 small children that have also joined me. We have found the cabins to be comfortable and warm to sleep, cot provided by the spirit for the baby very suitable. food is expensive but tasty.

The online booking system is wonderful. This trip I changed my sail dates numerous times over the weeks leading up to the trip at no charge. Very handy, and easy to use.

We have used this ferry three times now and each time has been a really nice trip - apart from a few bumps! There was entertainment on our latest trip which was a nice addition. We elected to eat dinner before we boarded to save the hassle of trying to book a table in the restaurant (it gets booked out a lot). The food is great in the restaurant (not so much in the cafeteria style eatery) however continuous full bookings has meant they now have a two course minimum rule with set pricing. This is not a particularly cheap meal but it is reasonable for the quality.
I would always recommend to spend the extra money and book a cabin for a night sailing - I can't imagine how anyone would get a good night's sleep in the ocean view recliners!

Booked my crossing in QLD and arrived a day earlier than expected, I could not change my booking with spirit of Tasmania direct but had to go back through the travel agent I booked with, messing about and a few phone calls later and re-booked.
The crossing was pleasant with the restaurants and bars offering good service. I have used them a few times now and would suggest a better rotation of the films showing in the cinema.
I do not like the seat option for overnight crossings and would rather sit up and read a book all night than try and sleep in the supplied seats.

I have done the Melbourne to Devenport run a few times this year, in ocean recliner seat, shared 4 berth cabin and shared twin with picturesque porthole. A bed is definitely the way to go but the seats are roomier than airlines and you can get a good nights sleep. The service from the staff is always extremely friendly and helpful. Loading and loading fast and efficient. Food and drink though reasonably priced lacks a little in quality though not variety. Always a good choice on Movies in the cinema all TV channels available on the big screen liberally spread in the lounge areas. Often very good entertainment live music as well.

If you like sailing the seas, you will love this trip to one of the best destinations in Australia. Tasmania is fantastic and there is no better way to see it than in your own car

It was a tad disappointing in respect of the seating; but the overall assistance by the staff was quite good. The floor show was particularly impressive - but the food was too expensive for what was provided.

The staff of this organisation are one of the most helpful and knowledgeable of any organisation I have ever dealt with. Book over the winter months and enjoy HUGE savings. I received my sails at 50% off. We moved over to Tasmania on the boat with three cars and a trailer, and four people. We had so many amendments to the fare because I booked too much space - they happily refunded the difference

Approximate cost: $1800.00
