I drove past Stokers for a year before talking to a friend and being informed that - no, it wasn't closed, but was in fact only open at night. I guess that adds a bit to its charm, the thick red curtains concealing the cute little crepe place until evening. A good alternative to the overpriced Pancake Parlour, I'd definitely recommend them. Just keep in mind that they serve crepes (think French pancakes) not thick American style pancakes like the Pancake Parlour.

Stokers is a little bit different - its not a coffee shop, rather an out of the way place to meet & talk late at night. My view is that its best in the winter when its cold and they have the fire on. Its quite a cozy spot which is remarkable given the main road is centimetres away.

Stokers has been open for years and the pancakes and the warning never change ("mind the plate - its hot"). Coffee is almost a throwback to that stuff in a clear jug they brew. No coffee-machine/celerity barista-moving-with-the-times here !

I've always found the pancakes great - you can see them cooking using ingredients (butter, eggs, flour - who knew?) rather than heating something pre-made at a distribution centre. They have a variety of flavours they accessorise with and so far, all have been pretty good.

The two things I'd suggest need improving - firstly, the interior needs work. Since the old guy sold out a few years ago, no maintenance has been done. The big speakers that made it like a club have been ripped off the wall leaving a comical outline behind. Secondly, if it gets busy, the enthusiastic students (different every night) who provide service just aren't up to managing fluctuating demand. Expect to wait in this situation.

Having said that, what a great place and I'd recommend it for a late-evening snack and chat.

I love the ambience as well as the coziness of this place but i wish the place could be a little brighter especially in the back room. I could hardly see what I was eating. The prices were also , in my opinion a little steep but my overall experience was good. Not forgetting , the place closes late !!

Approximate cost: $20

Pancakes are nice, but used to be bigger. You don't go there for the money value, the atmosphere and room is great. Big and quiet perfect for a date. Open at 8pm until late

Approximate cost: $12

Pancakes were delicious, however I cannot say the same for the drinks. The best ting about Stokers is the ambience ! Love the store design and the cozy, toasty vibe. One of my favourites for a late night snack

It's 1am and you feel like a night cap before you head home? Your idea of a nightcap though runs to pancakes and crepes along with a hot chocolate or some other warm and cozy drink? Stokers presents itself as a small cozy retreat with an open fire in Winter and low lighting - sometimes a little too dim to finish off a night out with delicious pancakes or crepes. Pricing is a little steep however they accept entertainment vouchers which is buy one get one free.

Prices a little steep in my opinion. But their opening hours are late, I understand there is a need to pay staff better than a normal cafe. Good food and drinks though, it gets very busy and it does show you the quality.

Great late night dessert house and cafe in East Melbourne. Stokers opens pretty late so it's a great place to visit if you're slightly peckish. I had the crepes with caramel pears and it was delicious. The crepes came out very hot (including the plate), so I'm assuming that they were preheated rather than cooked fresh from the mix straight into the pan, though I should add that it tasted pretty fresh. The pears were canned but wasn't too sweet and worked perfectly with the caramel and the soft crepes.

My friend had the ice chocolate that looked absolutely delicious because they used chocolate ice cream rather than vanilla. I definitely want to try that next time! The service was very good and decor was very quirky. It's a shame that they're all the way in Ivanhoe so it's quite a drive. However for anyone in the local area, I would definitely recommend this place as a late night stop off. Ample parking just on the side of the cafe.

Late night pancake institution. Delicious pancakes, savoury or sweet great retro atmosphere. Open fire in winter is hard to resist.
