This was a very cool experience. We went on a twilight cruise with Sydney Harbour Tall Ships. It was a fantastic night and great atmosphere. I hope to go on one again.

Great old style colonial ships to cruise around the harbour. Coupled with a BBQ buffet making it a nice day out. Visit iconic sites in the harbour. Trips usually take around 1.5 to 2 hrs.

AFTERNOON DISCOVERY CRUISE. We purchased $19 discounted tickets from Groupon so our disappointment wan't as great as it would have been had we forked out $49 each. Also, if you plan on paying in advance for the open bar (we didn't), consider whether you will get you money's worth. At the moment it is discounted to $22 for the 90 minute cruise that we took but the "bar" (esky!) is open for about 70 minutes and the alcohol is otherwise $6 per glass and soft drinks $3. Maybe you'd only want 2 or 3 $6 drinks in that short amount of time.

The Soren Larsen was a beautiful tall ship however we barely moved once the motor was shut off and the sails were partially-set and besides the short introduction before we left the wharf, there was no commentary to keep us interested or entertained (though Fort Denison was pointed out and a mention of the cannon being fired daily at 1pm). Sure, we have sailed/cruised on Sydney Harbour dozens of times but the commentary is always interesting and pretty much vital when half of your itinerary keeps you within the same tiny area of the harbour (we were stuck under the bridge for most that time)

The snacks served on board were obviously ploys to get you thirsty to buy drinks - they just kept bringing around the same tray of sliced (very salty) chorizo sausages until it was empty then a tray of spinach-ricotta pastries. That was all.

There was nothing bad about the cruise - it was just boring and could have been so much better, particularly since they had a tour-guide/host on board. With so many other tour operators offering trips on the harbour (and actually getting beyond Circular Quay!), these guys really should lift their game!

Approximate cost: $49

Husband and I went on their twilight cruise. Was absolutely lovely way to spend an evening. Dinner was included in price. Truly great experience taking in Sydney harbour lights and watching the sun go down and would certainly recommend if you have overseas visitors as the slow speed lets you take in the wonderful scenery. Watching other cruises go past I was much happier to be sitting back enjoying the peacefulness with out their blaring music. Also have daytime cruises. Suitable for all ages other then maybe infants.

I had a great time with a friend on a BBQ Lunch Cruise on the beautiful Southern Swan square rigged tall ship sailing on Sydney harbour. There was finger food taken round just after leaving port as we motored out to the end of the harbour and a fully licensed bar was open for the majority of the trip serving water, juice, beer and champagne. If you were interested you were able to help hoist the sails or, really adventurous, climb the mast to the crows nest to look around the harbour from a higher perspective. Laser clay pigeon shooting is also held on one of the other cruises. An Aussie BBQ was then served and was eaten with gusto while we sailed gently back into port. The trip took about two hours and the weather was cloudy and a bit cool. They suggest wearing casual and comfortable clothing, a hat and bring a jacket and wet weather gear if needed. Shoes should be low heeled or flat with no high or pointed heeled shoes allowed as they are really impractical. There are narrow and steep stairs to go below to collect your buffet lunch and it's a bit of a squeeze if two people are going in different directions. The crew were great - friendly, informative and willing to answer all questions about the ship. The ship itself is well looked after with gleaming polished wood everywhere. I had a great time and so did my friend. I would really recommend this as a great old style sailing experience and am looking forward to going again in the future, maybe on one of special event cruises.

Approximate cost: $89-149
