We went to The Abyssinian tonight and we really enjoyed the atmosphere as well as the attentive service. The food was great and the chef plater selection is a must.

I remember dining here four or five years ago and absolutely loved it. Returned recently and it just wasn't the same. Food was good, but service was lacking. Price was reasonable and quality and quantity was perfect, but the place has somewhat lost its vibe of its past

Customer satisfaction was not met. Not a professional company but the food taste was alright. Also, not too expensive. Just wish the staff were a bit more professional.next time we might leave this place to last option.

Our booking has been lost twice in a row now - they fitted us in but it would be a problem if we had been more than two! Food is very good, not spicy enough for my taste though. Portions are generous, nice vibe, lovely staff. But book and double check your booking to avoid disappointment.

If you want authentic East African food then look no further. The food is delicious, lots of flavour and all served with lemony pancakes you need to rip apart with your hands. Recommended!

For me it was such a new experience to taste Ethiopian cuisine. I really enjoyed the food though. Meals are served on big, round platters covered with large straw lids- which was really different to anything I have seen at a restaurant. However be prepared to go cutlery free!!!

Platters to share are amazing, we were with a large group of people and the platters are certainly the way to go. A variety of curries are served on flat pancake type thing and the order of the night is use your hands! The whole group just rip some pancake and eat away.. Cuttlery not required! Amazing atmosphere and even better food. A must visit. the whole meal cost around $25 each.

Great food, atmosphere, music and overall experience.
We arrived at The Abyssinian following a hint we got from a friend in Melbourne that is a regular there.
Coming from sydney wehre we have no Ethiopian restaurant, we decide to give it a go....and how right she was.
The food...never tasted so many spices all at the same time. And they also have good african beers, a bit sweet but still very refreshing.
We had the mixed platter for 4 and at $89.00 cannot go wrong with that, as it is pretty large.
A must try if you are in Melbourne.
