Always one of the "must do" experiences I recommend to Melbourne visitors! I have been on it three times now, and thoroughly enjoyed each ride.

For those who haven't been on it, the sight of the trams trundling through Melbourne's inner suburbs is deemed a bit cheesy, but onboard it is far from it!

The food is indeed surprisingly good coming out of the kitchen smaller than a toilet cubicle. The onboard waiter has always been outgoing, fun and active in getting people talking to each other - as many people are celebrating something or another. The waiter is always surprisingly generous with the alcohol - freely filling glasses as you wish. This non-stingy approach makes for a fun night, and you often sit there looking at the 'outsiders' curiously peering at the tram as it passes by. The earlier the tour, the cheaper the meal.

Believe me, whenever I see the trams go past now, I think of the lucky people on board who are probably having a far greater time than I would be in the street!

Approximate cost: $120

A wonderful meal. My wife is a coeliac and despite me mentioning this upon booking, the staff on board were not aware. However, they were able to make something for her. Unfortunately it was an extremely hot evening and the air conditioning was broken which made for a sweaty ride, however the food was good quality. Would love to try it again in more comfortable surroundings and for my wife to be fully catered for.

We went on it for lunch on Sunday as a New Year celebration for 2 of us. We've enjoyed it so much on 3 prior times in 3 years, to have excellent food, and an interesting outing. The night trip is longer but both are are worthwhile experiences.

Approximate cost: $100.00

My family went on the Tramcar restaurant to celebrate a special achievement and it was a great experience. After waiting a while at the pickup point in South Melbourne (near Jeff's Shed) we boarded the tram. It was a five course dinner, skillfully prepared in what must be the tiniest kitchen in all of Melbourne. I had a steak for main course and I didn't have high expectations, but it was fantastic and would have stood out at any restaurant, let alone one on a tram. The price looks a little steep, but it's all inclusive of drinks so its not bad value.

For a really special night out as a couple or with a group of friends. Not cheap but well worth it. The best 5 star meal I have ever had, with the novelty of being on the move. Can get cold waiting in winter! Book early as they book up quickly.

Approximate cost: $0
