Oh! I can't believe I've never reviewed The Deli before!
I used to live around the corner from this Thebarton institution. We would go here once a week. Now I am a bit further, it still gets an occasional visit. The breakfasts are great - the full breakfast has a beautiful handmade hash brown, and the poached eggs are perfect. The outdoor seating is great, and the whole place has a laidback vibe, vintagey and comfy.

There have been times when the food has been a bit inconsistent, but overall it is a good solid 4 for breakfast.

Mmm... Has this place gone down? They do make their own hollandaise and that's wonderful, but there was too much vinegar in it this time. Well, that's the claim from my partner.
I got the french toast, and that's something! But it's very sweet for breakfast. Brioche, berries, ice cream and syrup? For breakfast??? Was really yummy, but not sure that it was appropriate.

Otherwise, the place is the same.

Had breakfast, it was amazing, quirky interesting place where you can sit inside or out, great atmosphere. Had the Deli and the vegetarian breakfast with homemade baked beans and hash browns, gluten free bread available, the coffee was really good. Left feeling very full, and happy.

It's like that house in Harry Potter. The one that fits magically between 2 other houses, which you would never see unless you're looking for it.
Look for it we did and we found it. Outside, it looks like a run down antiques shop, but inside, you are in a very cozy gem of a location. They've gone and spruced it up very homily with drawings of mushrooms on the walls and they hang art by Im' guessing a local artist, which are also for sale. They have a courtyard out the back for those who like the outdoors and I'm guessing by the dj equipment and projectors that they are also a vibrant night life location.

Food-wise, they do quite well. I had the vegetarian breakfast and my partner the eggs benedict. Yum mostly for both, except I found the poached eggs on toast of the vegetarian breakfast to be very bland and tasteless. The home made hash brown just tasted like potato fried in oil. Needed seasoning. Otherwise, the mushrooms, the spinach and their version of baked beans was fantastic.

Coffee = decent. And that's a compliment since it's so easy these days to make a bad coffee. Just getting it right is a skill that shouldn't be played down. Well done
