While it's commendable that quality food and something more interesting than run of the mill fare, be offered, it defeats the purpose when you are left wanting more breakfast for your buck. My friend had been wanting to come here for a while. She had the mushroom breakfast and while nice ... just wasn't what it was cracked up to be. I had the crumpets served with little pots of lemon curd, stewed apple and butter pats and after that, not much change to be had from around $40. The location is hardly stunning either and service was not more than satisfactory. Won't be returning.

The serving sizes seem to keep getting smaller and smaller. All the while, I do not see much change in the food in terms of quantity, quality or innovation. It is almost bordering on the ridiculous, as for a few dollars more I can see parallels to the Duchess' dishes in inner city restaurants where the rents, service and decor are much smarter.
The Duchess is good, but I do find it a little overpriced.

I went there for the first time today with a friend, right away we were greeted by an extremely pleasant waitress, who ended up being helpful and knowledgeable with any queries that we had about the menu. I ordered the Crispy pig's jowl with fried eggs, rich truffle sauce, and sourdough toast which was delicious, in fact the only complaint I'd have would be the size of the portion as i could have had a lot more, but this is fine dining and the price was in line with the quality of the food and service. My friend had a quiche tart sort of dish from the specials which she loved, I did try it and thought it was fantastic, full of flavor and the pastry was light, flaky and melts in your mouth. I was not expecting much but in the end I was pleasantly surprised. Very highly recommended.

This place always seems busy when i visit sometimes we cant even get a table the staff are very lovely and so is there food it always seems fresh. All staff are nice and friendly

Awesome little gem of a café in Spotswood - they do great breakfasts and lunches in particular and the coffee is good as well. Its pretty popular amongst the locals and for good reason! Fast, efficient and friendly service, good food, reasonable prices...this is exactly the sort of café that Spotswood deserves!

Went there for lunch this week. Its a really nice friendly cafe/restaurant. The area is starting to become somewhat trendy. The food was really great and the service was friendly and efficient.

I loved this place, I walked into all the surrounding options and none could offer gluten free. The Duchess of Spotswood had heaps of options I could eat, the food was great, there are some really interesting items on the menu and it was packed which is a sign of a great place. Will be going back for sure!!!

Considering there are two other cafes only metres away, you'd think their prices would be more competitive. Breakfast was nice - but expensive! Cupcakes for 3.50.
