The Golden Ox sounds like a place to go for steak, but actually it is a better place for seafood. The platters are famous and the name comes from the location on Oxley Ave (rather than serving Oxen, which while nice, is a fairly bland meat).

We had seafood and the recommended wine (which was well matched), but they have a pretty good array of cocktails that make me want to come back for those (I don't think they really have share platters that are suitable to enjoy cocktails with though).

Another Redcliffe Peninsula Icon, we have a few, and I guess the Golden Ox is probably in the Top 2. The Prices are Expensive, but again, Its the Experience of going, I took My In-Laws there just Prior to Xmas, and I got to say, The Staff were Amazing. and very Accomodating, I Had Flowers delivered to there, to be brought out during the evening, it was done to perfection. Look, its no Hell's Kitchen, and Gordon Ramsay, type of atmosphere, but it is good Value. Irish Coffee's were Delicious. Anyways - 5 Stars for me. Well Done Golden Ox

We were invited out for a meal with friends, who chose the restaurant. When we arrived there, it was hard to find a park and we had to walk from down the road a bit. Myhusband is disabled, and this did not bode well. When we got inside, our friends were already seated, and we were ushered to the table by a staff member. They left without asking us if we wanted a drink before we ordered, and I felt as if they didn't really care that much. We did finally get a drink when we ordered, about 8 minutes after we arrived. The table was near the wall, and my husband had trouble because he can't bend his left leg. The staff brought our meal, and asked him to put his leg under the table. He was unable to do that and be comfortable, so we switched chairs with the other couple. The food was tasy, but I didn't feel it was value for money. We declined desert and coffee because we just wanted to leave. It was priced way out of our budget, and I felt we could have been better off somewhere else. Our friends didn't seem impressed either! I got the feeling that we were intruding on the staff when we asked for a jug of ice water. Sad!

I'm not a person who likes fancy restaurants. I prefer casual dining. This place was a little different for me. The dining area was roomy, the food okay, but a little expensive for my taste. I would say it was okay, but it wasn't my choice. We met friedns ther, and I think they were a little disappointed with the cuisine too. I was still hungry after my main meal, which wasn't exactly value for money. My wife didn't say anything at all which is very unusual. It was just okay, but I had trouble finding a park and wasn't that impressed. It felt like we were intruding, which isn't a comfortable feeling at all. The service was mediocre and it didn't reflect on the food either. I won't ever be going back there, even if they pay me!

What a great place. We had a great night at the golden ox, we were met at the door by staff, taken to our seats quickly and were made to feel vey welcome from the start. we ordered our meals they were presented very nicely- which is always a good start. The food tasted just as good. For us it got a three out of three- good service, great food and it was very well priced for what we received.

My friend organised a bunch of us to go for a meal at the golden ox, i have to be honest and say i had never heard of the place until then. The service was very good, the food was also great and we had a great table and we stayed for a few hours and we were really well looked after. I would definitely recommend the golden ox to my friends.

We celebrated our Silver Wedding Anniversary with the Wednesday night Seafood Celebration. Every one of the five courses were amazing. Beautiful presentation, lovely atmosphere and caring wait staff. The grand piano, candlelight and celebration sparklers made for a wonderful night.

What a fantastic restaurant. They have a lovely bar area where you can go for predinner drinks. Whether you are there for a private meal or are having a wedding in the function room "The Ox" is in a class of its own. The food is beautiful the staff are wonderful and the atmosphere is really lovely. Perfect place for that special occasion.

The food is delicious, we love going for the early bird menu, it's a great price for a 3 course meal. They have a lady that comes in and plays the piano which makes a lovely ambience to the restaurant. Virginia is the owner and she is lovely. Thanks for a great night

Went to the golden ox for a meal with some friends, the service was friendly and we had a great menu to chose from. Everyone was happy. The food came out and it was delicious- i had prawns with sweet chille beurre blanc and then the barramundi for main. I shared the brandy snap with my husband and we loved all of it. Finished feeling very content and we look forward to our return.

The food was great I had Duck and it was cooked perfectly. Not to mention the awesome bomalaska I had for dessert that came on fire. All the staff are so friendly and sometime there is a lovely lady who plays the piano. and u can request anything she knows it including the new one :)

The food was very good but the atmosphere left a lot to be desired. The surroundings were dated and the clientele was mainly older people. Some interesting music, rather than a boring pianist on a Friday night would have been good.

Went there for their Mother's Day seafood buffet. The food was lovely, but a staff member was assigned to dish out the seafood and was only allowing diners to have 2 oysters, 2 prawns, etc. per visit to the buffet. Paying a substantial price per person, it would have been better if weren't limited to certain portion sizes.

I like the menu because it varies season to season. The food choices are good quality, but not too out there. It is a good choice for an event because it will suit a lot of people.

I once attended a melbourne cup lunch there and the food and entertainment was good.

When dining on ordinary occassions the service is quite personalised.

The price of lunch is very similar to cafe prices, but you get to sit in more of a fine dining atmosphere.
