Very friendly, warm, & pleasant atmosphere. Quick service with a smile. Food was great. Calamari & steak cooked as requested, and perfect veggies.

Went here on a Sunday night for dinner - very quiet, but great rustic atmosphere, with shiny hanging tankards and other quirky decorative items. A vast array of alcohol was available. Food serves appeared very generous, although, padded out with large portions of peas, mash and chips. There were some inconsistencies in quality: the Parma was raved about; my sister thought the calamari was quite rubbery; my partner really enjoyed the shepherd's pie; my son was expecting more than one rib for his 'Ribs' dish. Sadly, the roast of the day was not available. Service was interesting. I'm not sure the long trip up the windy road on a cold, slippery, foggy, rainy night was worth it. Sunday lunch might be a better option.

We have been coming here on and off for years and were disappointed when it closed for a while.
But it is now re-opened with new owners who are trying their best to rebuild this gorgeous little pub!
It's a cute little English-style pub in Main Ridge with maps of the United Kingdom and Ireland lining the walls, and beer steins dangling from the ceiling. There are tables outside with a little fire going during winter where you can sit and overlook the beautiful views of the Bay. Or you can head inside and sit by the open fireplace in the dining room or slide in to a little booth in the bar area.
We love it as it is a kid friendly venue. We take a ball up for our kids to kick around the lawned area, or leave them to wander around the little garden path alongside the pub, spotting kookaburras in the trees nearby.
We have always headed here for the venue, and resigned ourselves to the fact that the food wasn't great, however with the new owners (and therefore a new Chef) this is all changing with a more varied menu and with food made with a little love!
The new staff members that are now employed there are super-friendly and made our last trip to The Pig and Whistle so much better.
It is definitely a place to stop for a quiet beer after a winery lunch and enjoy the view and the grounds, or head up for a meal and feel safe in the knowledge that your kids will have a good time too!
At Easter time, they even had chocolates hidden around the gardens for the children to find (shame about some greedy kids with equally-greedy parents who let their kids grab big handfuls, rather than keep a few and leave the rest for other kids there!)

I recently had lunch here and whilst the service was fine and the ambiance nice, as we sat outside on a beautiful peninsula day overlooking Port Phillip bay. The meal was extremely disappointing. We have now eaten here on 2 occasion's and would not recommend to friends. Great if you want to have a drink in a nice garden setting..

Approximate cost: $25

This is a nice little English pub located in gorgeous Main Ridge Victoria. We dined in their restaurant area which overlooks their lovely gardens. It was a rainy Winters day and this placed was absolutely packed. They did pretty well considering how busy they were. Our waiter was very good. The food came in generous serves and was delicious. Our only let-down was that the kids meals came last (they really need to come first because its hard to keep kids sitting at the table when they are hungry) and my salmon was luke-warm. The meals did not come all together and the kids ice cream was forgotten all together. Other than that we enjoyed our time there.

Approximate cost: $25 - 30
