not a bad pub in brunswick not too hipster like the other places around the area - i like how fast the service is and how great their chips are - crispy but not burnt

Awesome pub/bistro/beer gardens.
They have some of the best burger I have ever ever had! So tasty and fresh and cheap!
Cheap drinks too.
The beer gardens and oustide parts have a really nice laid back atmoshphere; the inside seems a bit old and worn out but it still is a great place.
My favourite place to eat in Brunswick!

I LOVE retreat! No particular demographic, you'll find all sorts here. Lovely relaxed and alternative feel if its not a Friday or Saturday night stuck in the line out the front.

The pricing at the retreat reflects its' location more than its' demographic, but the food is gorgeous.

I've eaten here so many times on visits, as my friends live around the corner. I recommend it.

It's great to hang out and eat some nachos or a delicious wrap, then get stuck into the incredibly well priced ciders and drinks. At a certain time of night, some of the staff will come round with little complimentary snacks and you get to tuck into some samosas, spring rolls and the like, just adding to the deliciousness!

The atmosphere is great, I wish I could transplant it to Adelaide!

I lvoe the retreat for lunch or an after work drink in Summer - the Beer Garden is lovely. They have great cheap meals and some great cider on tap too!

To really experience the Retreat, you need to take two trips. One at lunch time on a nice sunny day, so you can sit either out the front with a friend, have a beer and watch the world go by and also to experience one of the better beer gardens in Melbourne. The second trip would be a night trip, and skip dinner so you can come down and get chips and gravy. Chips, gravy and beer, what a combination!

What's good about the Retreat is that it isn't trying to be something that it's not. It embraces it's slightly grungy edge and is just a great place to kick back.
The beer garden is great, usually busy in summer and the cushions/blankets on the astro turf is great.
Live music both inside and out - I love this place

I'd have to say the Retreat is a standard place to visit. There's nothing fantastic about it, and there's nothing I don't like about it. It's just standard to me. I've ordered meat and fish dinners there before and they are exactly what I'd expect for a pub meal. They have a pool table and vintage video games inside which is pretty cool. The beer garden is quite large so bear that in mind if you're Mr/Mrs Popular and you invite heaps of friends along.

I've been to The Retreat a few time, mostly in the afternoons before it gets packed. But I've walked past it at night and the line has been around the corner! Its a great spot for an afternoon drink especially in summer as it has a large beer garden with astro-turf so you can have a little picnic!

i haven't seen this astro turf at all!
