Cute little hidden bar in Sydney. Have a good selection of American style meals and nice variety of cocktails too. Espresso martini’s are yummy here

Had a little bit of trouble finding this place since it says 'Bobby's Boss Dogs' and looks like a cheery hotdog place. Bouncer waves you through the door-disguised-as-a-vending-machine into a delightfully den-like place. Very comfortable, a little dim. I liked the ambience.

We attended on a Tuesday, lured by their dollar dogs. Four of the dogs on their extensive menu were available for a dollar each, limited to six per person. We had two each and it was enough. XD Buns were normal and a bit cold, but the hotdogs were superb for the value. The four available were:

Texas Redneck: could have been spicier. Enjoyed the bratwurst.
Frank Sinatra: Pickles and onion on a hotdog! How nice. :D I liked this one, though the pickles/onion ring on top made it a little iffy to eat. A little sour but mustard was not overwhelming at all. Yum.
Bobby's Bogan Dog: Surprisingly good, though the profusion of mashed peas raised an eyebrow. Moreish.
Buffalo Bill Chicken Dog: Tasted like not-fantastic baked beans. Didn't taste battered??

Overall a good experience, though I don't know if I would pay the full-priced $10 for any of those hotdogs..

I quite liked Soda Factory - it was rather crowded for quite a small space but really that can only speak in their favour, right? I went on a Wednesday so made the most of the $5 burgers and $5 bourbon milkshakes then settled in to enjoy the free live folk music. Soda Factory's the new venue for a great weekly folk concert and I'm looking forward to going back, it's a cool place. Maybe it'll quiet down a bit after this initial rush, as it's still pretty new. For now, just get there super early if you want a seat!

Sounds great, how was the bourbon milk shake?

Pretty yum- and served with a cute swirly straw! Quite funny to see a bar full of people with milkshakes :)

I was very excited to go to The Soda Factory to try one of their $1 Hot Dogs that every hipster in Sydney seems to be talking about.

I was most excited at actually walking into The Soda Factory, it has that secret feel to it especially since the entrance is somewhat hidden. You walk up and it says 'Bobby's Boss Dogs' that does takeout orders, but you walk thru a 'secret phoney coke machine ' door and you're inside The Soda Factory.

Once inside, this was not the case, holding on to the belief that The Soda Factory was going to live up to my expectations, I was sufficiently disappointed. This bar tries TOO hard to be something different, when it really is exactly the same as every other bar within Surry Hills.

The bar staff and waiters were unfriendly. I understand it may get busy, but this was just crazy, people were sat on the floor, steps, corners of reserved tables. I ordered the $1 hot dog, which was very enjoyable for a $1 hot dogs and I got the hell out there.

This place is trying too hard to be original when it has no difference to its competitors. Maybe I need to go to The Soda Factory on a different night to $1 Hot Dogs, however many other bars within Surry Hills offer the same vibe.

Approximate cost: $20
