Definitely one of the best cheap Japanese restaurant in Melbourne. The owners are Japanese, always very polite, courteous and friendly. The rice dishes are delicious and in fact you can't go wrong with any of the hot food they serve. I absolutely love the oyakodon here (chicken with eggs on top of rice dish - actually it means something like parents and child dish). Anyway, back to the taste, I admit defeat when it comes to their oyakodon. They make better ones than I do (and I am pretty good at cooking according to few sources ^^). If you are nearby and in need of a cheap, heartwarming dish, then you definitely need to check this place out.

This place has been around for more than 20 years and I have been a regular visitor when I used to work in the city and now when I visit the city to see clients I often go there for a quick snack or lunch on the run. The place's popularity is reflected by the crowds that they have at lunchtime. They continue to provide consistent, very good quality Japanese at reasonable prices. The Gyoza are cooked just right, as is the karaage (fried chicken) and I normally order the Sukiyaki beef or the Ten Don- Tempura veggies on rice. Consistently great tasting and good value for money Japanese. If you are on the other side of the city - near William and Collins St, I highly recommend the sister restaurant Don Bay in Gurner's Lane - see my other listing!

I have been to this restaurant so many times and I always have the Fish Bento and fried tempura! Very tasty. The owner of the shop is the couple who served the food. they are so friendly and polite. even though they are so busy during lunch time, they are always smiling. the price is just reasonable for a bento.

Approximate cost: $10

Very very tasty foods, especially their vegetable tempura. Their homemade sauce compliment it beautifully.

It's owned and run by an old Japanese couple. The wife serves and the husband cooks. Usually at lunch hour the wait can be quite long for foods to arrive because there's only 1 cook in the kitchen. I normally prefers to go at around 2-3 pm to avoid the lunch hour rush. My favorite is Ebi Don-Tempura prawn on top of egg thing with special sauce. The tempura is very crispy and the sauce is oh so tasty.

Approximate cost: $9
