I live too far away to use this practice as my regular vet, but I have twice been referred there by local vets for specialist treatment for my pets. Both times the service has been outstanding.

The most recent occasion was when my 14yo cat had a recurrence of a mast cell tumour on his face which my local vet said was inoperable, and he referred me to Dr Linda Abraham at the Melbourne Uni clinic in Werribee to see if there were any other treatment options. Dr Abraham agreed it was inoperable, and she also detected a heart condition which I had been completely unaware of. However, she felt that there was a lot we could do to relieve my cat's symptoms and make him as comfortable as possible in the time he had left.

With her help and advice, I was able to give my cat palliative care, and together we kept him alive, happy, and relatively comfortable and well for just over a year. I know he was happy and free of pain most of the time, because he still wanted to play, almost every day. A sick cat doesn't want to play.

During that time, I would visit the practice with my cat occasionally, but mostly we consulted by phone. I would phone Dr Abraham every week or so to report my cat's progress and discuss with her whether we should adjust his medication. She was never too busy to return my call, she never charged me for this phone advice, and she was kind, encouraging and supportive during what was an extremely stressful time.

Finally, 13 months after diagnosis, my cat could no longer swallow and I had to get the local vet to call round and euthanase him. When she heard the news, Dr Abraham sent me a sympathy card. I was very touched by her kind gesture at this awful time.

I notice Dr Abraham is still practising and lecturing to students at Werribee (she is a senior lecturer at the university), and I would not hesitate to recommend her. She is everything a vet should be: skilled and gentle with animals, and endlessly patient with their owners as well. Dr Abraham, if you're reading this, thank you. I realise you couldn't cure my boy, because nobody could, but you gave him one more very good year of life, and for that I am grateful.

Really felt I was in the best place for my dog, none of the other vets that I visited seemed to understand how bad my dog was and how I was at my wits end after 6 vet visits with no answers. Dr Abrahams was great.

I am commenting on the Emergency clinic, they saved my dog, what could have been an overdose of anti inflammatory vaccination, don't waste your time with local vets if you have an emergency go to the best, they really care, take all your documents with you to show, they ask all questions how things came about etc. they have been operating for years I've now given up on my vet of 8 years disgusted and disillusioned last time my Vet was even frightened to put a worming tablet in my pets mouth, not a dog whisperer in any shape or form, each time i go I get a different vet, last yearly visit I also got a quote to pull out teeth when they should have picked the problem up prior, they used to be great, but now its the money factor, please ! please ! ask watch and listen to what they are giving your pet, i couldnt stop my dog from vomiting poor thing he was so ill and he only went in for a sore back, do your research, if I had also givenl the other medication they subscribed my poor little dachi would be dead.also being Christmas eve I could not ring them to let them know, now changing back where I always took my animals in full confidence that an emergency hospital is open 24 7 even on Public and Christmas Holidays. Value was expensive due to being the Christmas period but worth it, now on bland foods until her fully recuperates, I also rang the vet today to tell them i would not be making my appointment I had made prior to him being ill, receptionist said they had received the report from the Werribee Vet Hospital it was not the normal friendly telephone experience, I suspected they were not happy with the report, I am writing this so others know of what can happen to your beloved pet, i don't want the same thing to happen to others. Not to mention days of worry and no sleep.

Thankyou Werribee Emergency Dept :)

My dog was admitted with pancriatitus, I cannot express how well they treated her and how great they were to me . I was able to visit my dog and kept up to date with her progress. When I finally took her home I was able to call at any hour for advice or for anything that was concerning me and a vet was there to talk to me

Approximate cost: $700

I take my cat and dog to this clinic and the vets are always friendly, knowledgeable and caring. I don't often have to wait long and the prices are fair.

Went into Werribee Veterinary Hospital with a Happy, Playful and full of life 8 year old little much loved doggy with a COUGH and 5 weeks later after many emergencies my dog had to be put down due to negligence on the part of the Vet seeing her... Devastating!!! My own Vet backs up this claim but unfortunately they are self regulating and answer to no one.. Please email me if this has happened to you as I would be interested to know....

If you really feel like you have a legitimate complaint, the Vet Board of Victoria is who you would contact.

i also agree, they misdiagnosed my dog and i almost put her to sleep based on incorrect information. Advanced Vetcare in Kensigton is the place to go for critical care & 24hr emergency. They saved my baby girl and couldn't thank them enough.

My puppy was misdiagnosed by two vet clinics before i took him to Werribee vet Hospital. They were very sensitive, listened to everything we had to say and thoroughly checked my puppy out before they even suggested what they thought it might be. If it wasnt for their care, expertise and up to date equipment my puppy would have died as he actually had a puppy form of meningitis. The specialist (Rubin) who was assigned to operate and treat my puppy was first class, with a GREAT manner. The bill was abou 30% of what i expected. I live on the opporcite side of the city, however happy to drive an hour to know you are getting the best care.

I have only used these vets for annual check-ups but service is great I would defiantly use them if I needed to place my cats in major surgeries which (touch wood) will be never.
Great learning facility on their open days where you can see behind the scenes of the hospital.

My dog has 2 lots of major surgery at the werribee vet hospital and both times the vet surgeon Guy has been absolutely amazing looking after my dog insuring that she got the best treament for her cancer while not only under the knife but also during her recovery. He was very approachable and very sensitive to our feelings and always discussed the costs of the prcoedures and giving us many options.
