My husband and I wanted a quick fix for dinner so we purchased some salad and a roast chicken from Coles and then purchased some chips and potato cakes here. What is it with salt these days, way tooooo much, we had to scrape it off, besides this, not too bad at all.

Bit on the pricier side, but you kind of forget that when you have a slice of their pizza. Phwoar and Drool are 2 good words to sum it up

We had endured a big day out and about and decided something quick easy for dinner would be great. I was a bit apprehensive about purchasing from these guys as we have experienced many ups and downs in the past.

I ordered $10 of chips for 4 people and asked for them to be crisp. They were crisp but barely fed 2 of us. As for the potato cakes and fish, well the potato cakes could have been bigger, very small for the price and also oily. The fish was the best part of our purchase, but overall very disappointing and quite expensive. $48 for fish and chips is way toooo much.

We were on our way home after picking up the car and doing some shopping and actually felt like some fish and chips. Vale's was the best option with plenty of free parking spaces. We have mixed feelings about this place, it can be great one day and then the complete opposite the next. This time round is was about average, service was quick, chips and potato cakes crisp. there was just this underlying taste which continued for hours after we consumed our meal. Not a taste I wish to repeat.

After a big day of shopping I purchased a roast chicken from Coles as well as salad and just needed some hot chips to go with it. Vale's was the best option as there is heaps of parking available and it was quite busy. I just ordered some chips, it cost $10 to feed 5 people, thought that was ok. This time round they were perfectly cooked, crisp on the outside and fuffy on the inside, also the salt was not overwhelming on this occasion. My order was ready within 10 minutes, I left very happy.

With all this hot weather we have been eating out a bit more. As Vales was in the most convenient location we picked up some garfish, potato cakes and chips. It cost $42! The fish was good, potato cakes crisp but unfortunately the chips were overdone, we like them crisp, but this was ridiculous, they just snapped when we bit into them. Not worth $42. Should have purchased a roasted chicken from Coles!

I know longer go here for fish and chips as my last few attempts were very disappointing, so I am only rating Vale's Pizza bar on their pizzas in this instance. I picked up the Double Deal 1 - 2 large pizzas and 2 garlic bread for around $45. I ordered the hot & spicy and then split the other with taco and capricciosa. The taco pizza was surprisingly better than we expected and I would purchase it again. The hot and spicy was spicy but not too much, the bases were crisp and the toppings generous. The only downfall is the price, a bit to pricey really, but I would purchase again.

Picked up some fish, chips and potato cakes for my family last week as it was too hot for my wife to cook.

The chips were crispy, would have tasted better if there wasn't so much salt on them. The fish was a bit soggy but tasted fresh and as for the potato cakes, well the only way we could eat them was if we washed them first. There was so much salt on them, they were coated, just white, inedible. Our boys were especially disappointed as they love their potato cakes. I don't know why he would put so much salt on them they were horrible. I usually purchase our fish and chips elsewhere in Mclaren Vale, but unfortunately it has closed. If I do return here, I will have to ask for everything to be unsalted, so beware, he loves salt. Maybe he needs glasses!

Besides that, he offers fast friendly service.

I have been here a few more times since my last review, but last week, I purchased my last takeway - I will not be returning. I was so disappointed. I asked for my chips to be extra crispy to avoid them being soggy. Well they weren't soggy but they tasted terrible, he must have change the oil or something, but YUCK! As for the potato cakes, they were oozing oil, so soggy, just horrible, yet the fish was crispy but still that horrible taste from the oil just ruined everything. The prices are inflated for what you receive, I ordered $10 of chips to feed 4 people and the amount I received was ridiculous. I noticed a difference on my previous visit, but after this, I definitely will not be returning.

Have been here a few more times now for fish and chips. I thought my last visit was very expensive, purchased 4 pieces of fish, 8 potato cakes and $10 of chips (as there were quite a few of us) and was charged $47.50. I couldn't believe it, but was in a hurry to get home to everyone. I later worked it out that I was charged for extra fish and potato cakes. It should have cost me $40. I was not happy, I called them and they said come back in, but the drive was not worth it. I could not understand how they got it so wrong, as we were the only people in the shop at the time. Disappointed. Unfortunately, this is not the first time I experienced this problem. Wont be returning. Have been going to McChippys just down the road, is much better.
