I would not recommend RACV Total Care for towing if you live in the bush or travel regularly in it unless you have anything short of full comprehensive car insurance on your vehicle. Beware "RACV Total Care" does nothing for you if you hit a Kangaroo a 100 kilometres from home in the bush and it incapiciates your vehicle. I was 120 kilometres from home on the Sunraysia Highway going to St Arnaud at 15 to 7 am in the morning I struck a kangaroo at 100 km an hour and it disabled my van so I couldn't drive it anymore. Called Roadside Assist for tow back to Ballarat had only third party insurance on my Van but paid nearly $200 a year for full total care for all 3 of my vehicles only my wifes car is full comprehensive insured. I was told by the very helpful !! RACV receptionist after reviewing the insurance policy that I had on my van that I was not covered for accident disablement even under RACV Total care roadside assist. All along I was under the impression total care was just that total care covers you for everything and anything so if your vehicle is disabled 100 km from home you get a free tow home NOT SO ! They only tow you home for free in event of mechanical breakdown. If you hit an animal you are on your own unless you have full comprehensive insurance then the insurance picks up the tab. So their label is misleading and deceptive I won't be paying for their total care anymore. They just abandoned me without a word ( literally hung up on me ) they wouldn't even give me a number of a tow truck service from Ballarat to tow me home. In the end I managed to call a friend who texted me the number of a towing company from Ballarat who towed me home for the cost of $800 which I had to pay upfront. The bastards I paid them good money every year believing worse come to the worse and whatever happens and you are miles from home you'll get a free tow home because you believe total care is what it is supposed to be. And when I really needed them they just dropped me like a hot potato. Shame on you RACV for using a label on your roadside assistance which is deceptive . Its NOT TOTAL CARE at all. Very disappointed in the way I was treated and abandoned. Will be changing my roadside assistance membership to one who will really give me total care for anything including hitting a kangaroo in the middle of no where and getting vehicle disabled because of it.
