When you're across the road from a famous fast food giant, you have to do something to attract business and I think that this fish and chip shop just settles with providing really nice food at good prices. The only reason they don't get 5 stars is, it's cash only and no eftpos which some people can't cope with.
And if you're on the highway coming back from a long day out like we were, it's nice to pull off and find an old fashioned fish shop that just does good tucker. Flake at $5 each and got $5 of chips which easily fed 5 people as well as potato cakes for .90c. They also do steak sandwiches, burgers and other seafood items and and have a well stocked drink fridge. Offer choice of salt or no salt if you want and the gentlemen was kind enough to write "fish" on the parcel which was indistinguishable from the chip and potato cake one.
If I lived closer I'd be a regular customer.

Some pros and cons with this shop. The food was good value - lots of chips for $3.50 for "minimum" chips and other items like flake, cornjacks all slightly cheaper by 20 or 30 c than a lot of other places. But the service was quite slow even though we were the only customers and there was way too much salt on everything. So a convenient shop in a good location but watch how much salt they put on there. I'd go back to try something else from the menu - lamb souvlaki for $8.50 or a chicken schnitzel roll for $6.50. Pleasant enough lady serving, so maybe it was just an off day.

There's a whole lot of new shops, including food shops at Highpoint these days but it's nice to see an old favourite when you've been there for a few hours and you need a recharge of energy at lunchtime. This Italian shop has a great range of pizza's by the slice which you can choose from their serving area straight away. Great lunch time deal of two slices of pizza - many choices - the pepperoni was particularly good! Included is a can of drink for $10. Normally 2 slices is $7.70. Other quick and tasty snack foods to be had as well. Lovely serving lady who let us know when a fresh pizza was coming out and they make and serve all day so nothing is left "wilting" in the window etc. Heaps of tables and chairs nearby, if a little noisy.

On a lightning fast trip to Sydney and wanting food near the airport, found this great pizza place. Really great value for money with heaps of toppings and a nice home made crispy base (stone baked) - not the pre-fab ones you get other places. Really helpful and friendly staff, willing to swap around some ingredients. Have a range of traditional and gourmet pizzas and their own unique blends such as Mascot Special with cabanossi, smoked ham, roasted tomato, avocado, fetta cheese, shallots and mozzarella cheese. Yummo! And a Chicken Peri Peri. Have gluten free options too as well as other chicken and pasta dishes plus salads and dessert (Passionate Bite Gelato anyone?). And their drink cans are only $2.50.
Usually worry that pizza gets wasted when you're not home to fridge it for the next day but both of ours were eaten no problems.

What a delight for all senses, sight as well as taste. This corner business with ample seating at a busy intersection in the new "U turn" at Highpoint shopping centre, has a viewing window through which you can see busy ladies with delicate fingers hard at work making the actual dumplings you get to order and eat at the counter. You can line up for quick take away service or there is a lovely area, nicely decorated where you can sit at a table and have wait service. The prices were very reasonable - the pork dumplings only $1.30 each. And so much to choose from in the snack and finger food area as well as extensive noodle and rice dishes for more leisurely dining. A definite winner.

If you want some tasty Chinese food in the Flemington/Ascot Vale area then look no further than Bamboo garden. It's easy access and parking from the big supermarket and there's other shops to visit as well if you're waiting for take away. They offer a huge menu of the usual favourites and do a special Chinese stir fry where you pick the sauce and the meat to construct your own meal. Great lunch time special of 1 noodle dish, 1 Dim Sum and can of drink for $10.50. They were also nice enough to exchange the type of noodles in my Satay chicken from the thick rice noodles I don't like to the thin ones. So yummy and lots of meat and veggies in there. Plenty of seating to eat in also. Have some things I must try next time like curry fried rice and fried chicken balls. Nice people and quick service.

Came here with a group of friends from a sporting club and they were happy to accommodate a larger party. We had so many delicious dishes to share and choose from but the dumplings were the favourite by a mile. Others raved about the pork dumplings but there was something about the texture I didn't like. However the chicken ones were just wonderful. Lots of other choices and we did some sharing/sampling - have no idea what some of them were but definitely tasty and good value Chinese food to be had here. Ended up paying around $20 on a shared bill but ate plenty. They have "how many can you eat" dumpling challenge. LOL

What an interesting and delicious shop! As well as having wonderful melt in the mouth flake and nice old fashioned chips, there is a fascinating wall of "retro" to read and look at while you're waiting with record covers and old newspaper advertisements etc.

Maybe it's a ploy to keep you coming back but they don't need it. Our food was wonderful and well priced too at min. chips for $4 and flake at $5.50 each. When we unwrapped there was actually one more than we'd ordered because one was a little on the small side - but who does that these days?

There are value packs available and all sorts of interesting menu items like garlic chicken balls. A very pleasant young man served us and asked for choice of normal or chicken salt. We enjoyed our meal in this lovely regional town of Ballarat. They're open six days a week, only closed on Sundays.

This is a literal Aladdin's cave of beautiful things. Situated in a prominent area of a main street, you cannot pass by the window without looking and then you have to go in.
There are a mind boggling array of things inside - from select clothing lines not seen elsewhere to exquisite jewellery - earrings, brooches, rings of stunning make and design, to the ornaments and figurines of animals and mystical creatures made of gleaming metal, stone or wood.
A lovely young lady helps your selection if you require and there are also Tarot readings etc available.
Make Ballarat memorable by purchasing something extra special from here.

What a great location, right in the middle of the mall just when you need some refreshment from shopping. It's only a small place but does have tables and chairs out the front. Just the right thing for a light brunch while strolling around. The cheese and bacon rolls and pizza rolls were fresh and tasty and loaded with toppings. The caramel slice was very nice but the base a little too thick. Lots of other hot and cold baked goods on offer, all very temping and yummy and a good range of drinks.
Certainly recommend as a great place to have a snack or meal.
