We hit this place on its first day - and were pleasantly surprised! We ordered 2 x flat whites (soy) and they were very tasty. Hubby got the Papalina Pizza (large 12" @ $17) which had mozarella cheese, tomato, ham, salami, olive & oregano. Thin crispy base, tasty tomato base. He said is was pretty good - happy to come back and try more! So happy these guys have opened in the neighborhood! Go check them out!!

Some friends of ours met us here over the weekend for a catchup. The menu shocked us all. For a wine venue, they lacked significantly in the "nibble" category. Really only serving meals - but the name of the place implies it would've been more like a wine bar. Anyhoo, perhaps our mistake there. But nevertheless, we still expected to see some smaller plate options so we could sip on some wine and nibble away. But nope, not this place. There were 5 cheeses to pick from - in either a 25g ($10) or 50g ($20) option - which is a total joke. Look at the grams per dollar value - 50g is about the weight of a birthday card your grandma would send (and no coins in it either!). It wasn't like they were serving up some rare, specially made cheese from monks in secret places here. The service was significantly lacking as well. It was like we were being served by a couple of wet noodles, with stone faces. We were a party of 4, had 1 bottle of red wine, 2 beers, 1 cider, a plate with 3 x 50g of cheese, and a spam-meaty sorta slice on another plate = $166. If the atmosphere was better, and if you got a lot more value, yeah, then that price wouldn't have been that bad (maybe). The actual venue is pretty quirky and cute, but everything else could stand major improvements.

I'm so happy my hubby did his research and found Coral Lee while we were on holidays in Bright. Not only was the place a cute, cozy and funky spot - the coffees and breakfasts were delicious! Hubby got an herb omelette and I got the pest toast - both were very tasty and we'll be sure to go there again when we're next in Bright! highly recommended! This review is for Bridge Road Brewers, Beechworth VIC

verified email - 04 Sep 2014

Bridge Road Brewers is such a quirky little spot, hidden off the main street in Beechworth. There are a lot of different ales to try, they have wines, pizzas and more. Good atmosphere and a definite must-go-to when in the area! Last visit, hubby got the 8 x Beers Tasting Paddle and enjoyed about half the beers on it (he's not a dark ale sort of guy) Read more about our visit here: http://twobearsandafork.blogspot.com.au/2014/06/bridge-road-brewers-beechworth.html

We purposely went to Bright Brewery for 2 reasons: to support a local business (which was somewhat new) and as a result of a glowing review about their chips (apparently a lady drove an hour out of her way to get them again). We had a tight food schedule while in Bright when we went, so we could only squeeze in a nibble & drink to try the place out. The chips - yeah, okay. The beer - yeah, okay. It's probably a heap better if you go on a Friday or Saturday night (which we went lunchtime on a Wednesday). This review is for Oriental Jade Restaurant, Greensborough VIC

verified email - 29 Aug 2014

My hubby usually enjoys picking up a lunchpack or meal from Oriental Jade, but last night he had a hankering for some fried rice & dim sims ... and they totally let him down! He got a Large Special Fried Rice ($7.50) - which he said had NO FLAVOUR :-( not like them, he said their rice is usually okay. The 2 x dim sims ($3.00) meat inside was good, but the skins were like "batter" - very strange he said. Another sad review for a Greensborough restaurant. GB needs to pick up its game in the food department, or I'm gonna need to move!!

This review is for Greenie Thai, Greensborough VIC

verified email - 29 Aug 2014

Hubby and I decided to grab takeaway on the way home this week, and we haven't been to Greenie Thai in a couple of years. So we though, "why not?" It was about 5:30pm, we strolled in and ordered Vegetable Massaman Curry and a Vegetable Chili Stirfry. Came to about $26 for both. And what a disappointment and waste of money that was! When we got home, the Massaman's tofu and veg seemed VERY VERY old - tofu was all squidgy and rubbery. I have a suspicion this was a - freeze/reheat job. And the stirfry was marginally better (that's not saying much) than the curry, but all the cashews are oddly dark brown - burnt? Too long in the microwave? Not sure, but it wasn't pleasant. Overall, both dishes were pretty poor. I know it's hard to base a review on a single experience, but based on this - I see no reason to go back. You've been warned. :-P

This review is for Pizza Hut, Melbourne VIC

It's hard to pass up a $4.95 large pizza, isn't it? Especially when you're on your way back from a night out, as we were last weekend. Hubby was a little peckish so wanted a nibble, and the $4.95 price in the window was a definitely bonus. He got a pepperoni and a cheese pizza, so spent under $10 but didn't finish either. Aside from having decent pizza bases, they both lacked flavour and "moisture" (eg. no where near enough sauce on the bases) and hardly any cheese. But he did say to me, "admittedly, it's hard to be too critical when it's $4.95". In sum, not worth getting the $4.95 deal unless you're really really hungry and only have coins on you.

This review is for Max's Burger Bar, Montmorency VIC

verified email - 25 Aug 2014

We just hopped into Max's Burger Bar this past weekend for lunch (our second visit) and our burgers were BRILLIANT! They've changed the setup of the restaurant since we last went, and I will be honest, it's a bit awkward. They need to do something about those clunky/big booth chairs and get some funky tables & chairs to match their new bar area (with the tin and timber look). But anyway, aside from that - the burgers were fantastic! Hubby got the Monty one, which was HUGE - egg, beetroot, cheese, salad, cucumber, massive patties, big soft rolls -- he loved it! Although he had to eat it with a knife and fork! haha! I got the veg stack burger which was really yummy - eggplant, roast potato, feta cheese, salad, tomato, again - a soft roll -- YUMBO! Huge, too! Had to cut it in half! We both got a side of the herb fries, which are super tasty and worth adding to the meal! Overall, don't let the (current) wonkiness of their table/chair setup deter you - head in and order the burgers - they're worth it!! THUMBS UP!!
