Among La Trobe's numerous coffee places, I do enjoy Writer's Block every now and then. They have a great selection of cakes and muffins to go along with your coffee / tea / hot chocolate. I think that most people have told me that this is their favourite place to grab coffee on campus, and it's mine as well. I wouldn't say, however, that it is far, far superior to every other place there.
Lentil As Anything was amazing! We were there as part of a school retreat and the staff there made us feel so welcome. There is a huge variety of food, and it is all vegan, healthy and delicious! You pay as much as you feel your meal is worth, and this goes to support Lentil in their operations. It is entirely non-for-profit and run by volunteers. Such a hidden gem!
Always have the variety of textbooks that I need, whether new or second hand. They cope well with the high demand of the summer before school starts, and in the off-chance that they don't have my book, they usually have it within the week. Prices are standard for new textbooks, but you can usually get them second hand for a good price. Staff are always easy to get on with and are friendly. Easy to recommend!
For $6 a container, it was well priced, but not the cheapest I have had. The first time I was there, the rice dish I bought was amazing. However, subsequent times have seen the rice I bought come out very dry. I guess the sauce kind of fixes that...? Staff are friendly enough, but like most small businesses, they just stare at you continuously until you make a decision, which is very very very very annoying! Oh well, what can you do? At least the food was nice.
Approximate cost: $6
Personally, I thought that the crepes did not have any standout flavours. They weren't bad, but they weren't good either. But it was worth the money I spent, I think... The staff were okay, but I didn't get the chance to practice my French skills with them, something I wanted to do. I had to endure the nearby train noises, but got a nice view of the Yarra.
Approximate cost: $15
Living in Melbourne, I love the trams here! They are so convenient and efficient. They also come frequently, even at night! They are a great part of Melbourne's culture, another reason why I love them. Drivers are always helpful and courteous as well. Trams are so plentiful in Melbourne, and they aren't that expensive to use. You couldn't go through Swanston St or Elizabeth St or any other place in the CBD without seeing a tram. Love trams, love the service and the efficiency.
SportsPower is where I went to grab some new runners, and they were good, and still are. I bought them at a decent price too. The guy serving me was polite and helpful, so my experience here was quite good.
Some of the stuff they sell here is great and works well, but some of it is a little bit dodgy and may not work well or as intended. The staff were friendly, and the products were priced reasonably.
Fed Square has always been a trendy place to meet up with people and has always been packed when there are festivities in Melbourne. Fed Square is nicer inside than outside, but that's just my opinion. I went to an art exhibit in there and everything about the place was set out nicely.
Buying a suit here was a tad pricey, but then again, I don't buy suits often. The lady serving me was extremely helpful, and went out of her way to find the best and most appropriate and comfortable suit for me, and spent quite a bit of time with me while I tried a few on. Good quality, excellent service, but a tad expensive.
