I love Oriental Spa! I've come here a couple of times over the years- mainly for events such as birthdays and Christmas presents. It's a physically beautiful establishment- a quiet, blissful oasis in the middle of Chatswood CBD- all dark wood, floaty white curtains and candles and courtyards. You're given a tea (or lemon water) on arrival and also after your treatment and I believe most treatments start with a complimentary foot bath and short foot massage. Lovely!

It's not cheap for a visit to Oriental Spa but given the quality of the surroundings and service they work out quite reasonable in comparison with other salons. They gave me a discount for cash payment last time I went (mind you I was spending a pretty decent amount) and they also were happy to tailor a package for me and my sister, again with a small discount.

I'm a fan of their Balinese Massage and they do a pretty good reflexology too. If you have a special event coming up be sure to try them out!

Approximate cost: $Massage ~$100, Packages from $185

This review is for Ivy Hair Co, Hornsby NSW

I've been to Ivy Hair Co a number of times over the years (about 10-15 times) so this review is based on a few experiences with the hair salon.

I have pretty mixed feelings about Ivy Co. I'm one of those people who bring a photo/picture in of how I'd like my hair cut. I'm a realist- I know it's very unlikely to have an exact replica cut of the pic I bring in but i can honestly say that every cut I have had with Ivy Co has not even come CLOSE to the picture and by this I mean my cut doesn't even end up the same LENGTH as the picture, let alone shape, texture etc. (Today I got a crop after having showed my hairdresser a picture of a girl with hair just pass her shoulder... go figure!) And yet, I find that I keep going back to Ivy Co because their cuts are good. Sure they never give me what I ask for, but I can also safely say I've never had a bad cut from them.

Pros:
- Accept walk-ins and short wait times (if any)
- No pushy sales staff
- Prices are reasonable

Cons:
- Next to nil consultation time. Forget questions about your lifestyle, how much time you want to put into styling your hair or asking the hairdresser for their input. You just have to know what you want

Finally, it's not a criticism per se but the girls (and sometimes boys) here are all business. While polite, they are not particularly friendly or social. Don't expect questions about your day or your work/life.

Approximate cost: $45
