This review is for Green Herring Restaurant, Nicholls ACT

We went to The Green Herring with another couple, and despite the deliberately run-down looking exterior it's quite nice inside, and feels very intimate. The food itself was pretty good, with the desserts being a bit of a highlight while the entrees on the day were a little unprepossessing. I would go again.

This review is for The George Harcourt Inn, Nicholls ACT

I've turned up to the George a couple of times without a booking, and the same again with, and they've always been pleasant but absolutely chockers and busy. They've always made the effort to re-arrange to fit you in if required, and the food itself is good quality pub meals.

This review is for Tilley's Devine Cafe, Lyneham ACT

After hearing a lot of hype about Tilley's, we went along for a try. The staff were friendly but slow in serving, and the food was average and definitely not worth the price. The curry was bland, and my steak was nothing worth paying for. The atmosphere was OK, although without a band playing at the time perhaps it picks up. I wouldn't bother going back.

This review is for Ellacure Restaurant, Bruce ACT

Bruce can be a little hard to navigate, but planning ahead properly (this time) meant we were able to find it without too much trouble. The staff there are excellent, very friendly and know the menu inside out. As to the food, I had no problems with the quality of the dishes overall, but I felt they tried to do too much and would benefit from simplifying them somewhat. Our entree bread was very good, and just the right size for 2-3 people. The mains were OK, the fish and the steak from the specials list were well cooked and good sizes, but the accompaniments just didn't seem to work. I felt the desserts were too small, and nothing to rush back for, which was a bit sad. It's lucky the staff are so excellent, and I've heard breakfast is amazing so will have to come back to ascertain if this is true.

This review is for Guzman Y Gomez, Hamilton NSW

We love Guzman and Gomez, and this one didn't disappoint. The food is excellent quality, very tasty, and they offer a range of different meats and additional toppings on the side to accommodate different tolerances of spice. We feel the portions were smaller than their Canberra store, but we didn't feel ripped off. The food comes out really fast too. Great food, and great value!

This review is for Smoque, Canberra ACT

verified email - 07 Jun 2014

After hearing so much about Smoque, and having fond memories of ribs and wings from my time in America, I was excited to head down with a group to Smoque. I ordered the ribs and a few sides, and although I felt a bit underwhelmed it wasn't too bad. I did order the wings though, and they were excellent, so I'm going to have to return to give it another try.

This review is for Lanterne Rooms, Canberra ACT

I'd never heard of them, which was a surprise. We had the taster plate, and although it seemed reasonably expensive at $78/person when you get seven courses (five of them seafood) and all good portion sizes it isn't unreasonable. The decor is nice as well, a very pleasant dining experience. I don't typically enjoy seafood, but this food was great and the service was attentive without being over the top.

This review is for Trevs @ Dickson, Dickson ACT

verified email - 07 Jun 2014

Trev's at Dickson has a nice vibe, with friendly staff and modern decor. The entree option of a sampler plate at $9pp is a winner, the pizza was a generous size for a good price, and the veal moutarde was reasonably tasty. The pannacotta was excellent, and the semifreddo was also pretty good, and overall the price and feel was reasonable. I would happily go back

This review is for Honeysuckle Hotel, Newcastle NSW

verified email - 07 Jun 2014

Nice location beside the harbour, and parking is relatively easy nearby. Not great if you have a pram because of the long benches outside and congestion inside. The food was reasonably good quality, and the staff are friendly but rigidly adhere to the rules. The decor is pretty nice, but some of the live bands are pretty ordinary, which is a bummer when you are there to watch sport and have to hear someone mauling recent releases.

This review is for Stag & Hunter Hotel, Mayfield NSW

Whenever I've eaten here I always feel like the staff are trying to hurry me out of the back bar area, and the food is only OK. I wouldn't object to going back, but I wouldn't consciously choose to go there.
