My best pal Archie a 4.5yo German shepherd dog needed to be cared for whilst I took a holiday for 3 weeks. Previous experience at two other boarding kennels had left me apprehensive of leaving him for any longer than a week. My Vet suggested Badger Creek boarding kennels as he knew my dog, me and my previous experiences. From the moment I walked into the office area I was delighted; friendly, sensible staff who understood firstly my dogs needs and then mine too. Archie doesn't like all dogs, he has a skin condition which flares up at this time of year - so he needs regular thorough grooming and weekly medicated baths, he enjoys a chicken maryland to chew on every day, has to have a couple of favourite toys and is, despite his coat, very susceptible to the cold. He is a very loving chap, enjoys human company and lives on 12 acres where he does not stop all day - so very energetic and fit. His biggest problem is he can lose lots of weight very quickly in kennels. So when I mentioned this list of special needs (his and mine) I was delighted at the easy and knowledgeable response from the staff, their instant grasp of what was required and the simple statement that none of these issues was out of the ordinary! Kennels (in my experience) veto all bones - so no comforting chicken to chew, they worry about you saying he 'doesn't like all dogs' and I usually get a negative comment about him needing a coat at night because he gets cold - not Badger Creek. No problems.
I didn't have to repeat any of the concerns or special requests and I really felt for the first time, that although I hated leaving him, Badger Creek would be able to offer him the best care and chance to be happy and relaxed. When I dropped him off the staff member who had listened to my concerns about him getting really stressed when taken away, was brilliant at handling him and leading him happily away with his favourite toy and chicken to chew - I didn't have to listen to him howling and crying - what a relief. During his stay I received loads of photos of what he was up to and he looked great and happy in all of them. I picked him up this morning - I was given excellent feedback, and all his possessions were in order (lost in other places) and best of all he looked happy, healthy and although a little lighter he is not skinny. We have been for a walk - he seems stiff and quiet, but he is now sleeping in his favourite spot - missing his friends I think. Thank you to all the staff at Badger Creek Boarding Kennels and Cattery - I will be back and will certainly recommend you to others.
