This place is just around the corner from my office and I have therefore been many times for pure convenience. The last time I visited (and it will be the last), was as a new mum in the city with my baby. I ordered a meal and asked for my coffee in a takeaway cup although I was sitting inside, so that my cheeky bubby would be safe from scalding as he always grabs at my drinks.
The waiters and even the manager who knows me well from sight absolutely refused to give me a takeaway cup inside the cafe because it is their 'policy'. I was astounded at the pig-headed anti-customer care attitude.
Anyway, they are in a good spot so probably will continue to do ok.
Despite my disgust at their very poor treatment of me and my little boy, I will now give an objective assessment because I have been here so often.
The menu is quite large and their are always long-term, not daily 'specials'. The menu and cooking reminds me of what you may find in a country town cafe, up-market kind of truck stop. It probably fulfills a niche within the inner city, however the prices are quite high considering the plain and ho-hum fare and hit and miss cooking. The size of the meals are pretty substantial though. especially the burgers which are probably their best dish.
The fish is to be avoided because everyone I know who has ever ordered it has been a little concerned about its freshness or flavour. I have seen it sent back to the kitchen at least three times. Sometimes my steak sandwich meat has been charred and I have often had to pick at the side salad to remove yellow or slimy leaves.
Back to the woeful customer service for a moment, there is an associated takeaway bar around the corner that shares the same kitchen. Once my friend fancied some lasagne as offered at the takeaway bar, but it wasn't on the cafe menu. There was a 'fancy' over-inflated priced version as a special, such as spinach and ricotta lasagne. My friend asked if they could serve the takeaway meat lasagne instead and he would be happy to pay the same price as the special. They refused! I have to ask, WHY??
Anyway, to top it off the coffee has always been disappointing. In my opinion, there are very many much better places to get coffee nearby, so I gave up on their coffee years ago.
But if it is melted cheese on toast you are after, (at quite a high price) or a big burger with chips, (or actually, anything with chips aka a country truck stop) you might want to visit. Just don't take your baby!!!

Young Alfred's is in a great spot with some of the best pizza around. I love their good authentic bases with the yummy yummy sauce which sits just right and gives the top of the base that zingy silkiness that only great pizzas achieve. We had two pizzas between three people, which was just right for lunch.

Fantastic location and really worth a look-in on a Saturday, when it is not full of office workers. Upstairs is spacious with a nice vibe, comfy sofas and windows with a leafy view, looking down on the street below.
There are pool tables and nice lighting.
The food is very very good value, particularly the specials. You can actually get a well sized piece of salmon and salad for $10, plus lots of other good specials with a wider variety than a lot of other pubs.
Most of the staff are pretty friendly. There are snacks downstairs for the pokie punters.
On the downside, the good part of the pub is upstairs, so there is no wheelchair or pram access.

This is a club with a great value $10/year joining fee. But with this fee you get two free drinks and $10 off your Melbourne Cup Lunch, making it great value for money.

There is always somewhere really comfy to relax. If no-one has booked the function room, you can go in there and mellow out on the sofas (and put your baby to play on the floor!) There are lots of nooks and crannies, both inside and out.

The food is quite pricey for what's on offer, but it's no more than most Lower North Shore upmarket pubs. I wasn't a big fan of the proscuitto pizza I ordered once, with the base being quite dry and rubbery. The steak sandwich was pretty good, as was the Vietnamese chicken salad, which was very fresh and had a great texture.

Last time I was there was a Thursday lunchtime and there were a few very good live music acts playing over several hours.

This is a very pleasant cafe. The best thing about it is the long hours it opens, including Sundays. The coffee is not my favourite and seems a little bitter. But they do me a nice iced coffee (just a cold latte with ice), without any fuss and somehow when it's cold it seems to taste better.

I think the coffee here is rather expensive. The variety of food and munchies on offer are pretty limited, but the quality is good.

The staff are very helpful and don't mind when we move tables around.

This is a big inner city practice with many GPs. I have seen three and all were very thorough and took enough time with me to investigate my medical needs and give me information. One of the doctors here looked after me during my recent pregnancy and she was always willing to take the time to explain things to me when I had minor issues and vague symptoms.

This centre has a Douglas Pathology attached along with a dentist. There are other services too, such as a dietitian. There is also minor surgery performed here, although luckily I haven't needed any done.

This is a lovely little place to leave a small baby for a few hours. The staff are very caring and gave me a full briefing of my seven month old's day. He had a wonderful time there, by their accounts. They have a whiteboard to keep track of every baby's routine.

I think the ratio is two staff members for six babies. It is open Wed, Thur and Fri and is for small babies.

Upstairs is the 'day stay' with childcraft nurses who assist parents with their parenting problems, such as feeding and sleeping, which is free and needs a referral.

Approximate cost: $55

Geneveive really helped me sort my diet out by giving me a flexible, personalised plan and loads of information.

I saw her at her Bondi Practice, but mostly at the George St Medical Centre in central Sydney.

She came across as warm and friendly and also gave me some much needed support on how to educate my husband.

I have done really well since seeing her.

I left a room's worth of furniture and belongings here when we had a flooding. The staff were really helpful in ensuring that I got the best value for money space available, although I had already worked it out on their really handy web calculator.

Their website is useful and has all the information you could need.

My impression of this storage place is that it is clean, safe and secure and well run, with friendly staff.

Nicole did my hair on the day of my wedding and I was really thrilled with the result. She spent lots of time with me - I came in to have a consultation first thing then she treated my hair and straightened it. A few hours later I came back for the styling.

She worked around me and everything was perfectly timed.

She did a really complicated up-style quickly and efficiently and I couldn't have believed my hair could look that good. It was a really windy day and she made very sure that everything was secure. I had a headfull of metal pins but absolutely none of them were visible.

Nicole is a miracle worker. They do wedding packages, with makeup as well.

The staff have warm, friendly manner with the clients and excellent customer service. They really seem to care. One lady came in wanting her hair washed and dried and one of the staff members actually gave up her lunchtime so she could be fit in.

I didn't get to meet the manager, but she was fantastic on the phone. The staff here all do regular training sessions and industry seminars. This is a top class, excellent value salon.
