I have had the last FOUR of my SEVEN children via WCH MGP and you cannot fault this excellent facility and public service. We are so lucky in Adelaide. If women are prepared to stand up and claim the ideal birth they are wanting they can empower their MGP Midwife to advocate for them on their behalf every step of the way. I also support other women to birth and by far the MGP and WCH as a whole offers a superior experience.
I was able to choose the same Midwife 3 times but not for the last one as she had left the case load. I was able to drive home after baby #6 just a couple of hours after the birth as we were not sick, we had a baby. With #7 I was able to have a homebirth via the MGP practice when it became available to women who fit the criteria. It is an all risk model of care so it doesn't matter if you cannot have a completely natural birth and you may have some complications, the idea behind it is to have one on one midwifery led care with a primary midwife looking after you, you do meet her back up and you have a very good chance that your Midwife will be there on the day. She will go with you if you are transferred to labour ward and if you need to go to theatre for an assisted vaginal delivery or a caesarean she will also go with you! This is an ideal option for women viewing birth as a normal physiological event, women who would like a more normal, natural and holistic approach to their care. Ideal for VBAC, or for women who cannot afford to homebirth with an Independent Midwife.
