Discriminated against for last name
We adopted rabbits for our autistic daughter over the weekend but were unable to collect them until today because of heat.
Rabbits are an important part of our daughter’s emotional regulation and it has been quite difficult since our last rabbit passed away a few weeks ago, we feel very strongly about ethical pet keeping and wanted rescue rabbits accordingly.
We were called this morning and advised to pick them up, it is not a good day for us and we already had plans as the forecast was for above 30c, we tried to negotiate collecting them tomorrow when we didn’t have any appointments but were told that wouldn’t be acceptable, so we rearranged our schedule and made it work.
It’s an hour drive one way to get to the shelter, when we gave our name to collect the rabbits, we paid the $500ish already over the weekend and we were just waiting for good weather, we gave our name and were promptly informed that we in fact were now not allowed to adopt the rabbits. Apparently several months ago someone with the same last name had rabbits taken from them, I don’t know how they can even begin to justify this.
I now have a child if full blown autistic meltdown who believes that people think she’s responsible for the death of her last, very old, pet rabbit. To say that this has had a negative impact is a gross understatement.
We are in the process of securing baby rabbits through a breeder now, a massive shame given how many animals the RSPCA tells us need homes.
Shame on you RSPCA! You broke a little girl’s heart today and denied wanted pets a safe home.

Charged us for rabbits, let us drive an hour to collect them then told us we can’t have them because they don’t like our last name
We have a special needs child who is deeply dependent on her rabbits for emotional regulation. We lost our old rabbit a few weeks back and had arranged to adopt her new ones.
we looked at them without her then paid for them and only told her about them once we were sure they were coming home with us, we were unable to collect them on the day due to a heatwave.
Today we were set to collect them, we had set up they’re cages together, bought them chews and treats to help them settle in, in summary we have invested in they’re comfort and our child was very excited.
It’s a very long drive to collect them but we really wanted to get rescue animals and do good.
Upon arrival we were informed that we are no longer allowed the rabbits, we phoned ahead and confirmed before we left as it’s an hour drive and were told they were ready for collecting.
Apparently they don’t like our last name, they claim they have claimed rabbits from someone who has the same name, I really don’t see what that has to do with us? I would also like to know why if they’re going to be so blatantly discriminatory why they couldn’t say over the phone that certain last names are a deal breaker rather than letting us drive an hour to discover this?
I now have an extremely deregulated autistic child who is unable to understand why people think she’s mean to animals and out of pocket for animals we suddenly aren’t able to bring home.
So much for rescuing, I’m very sad to say i feel like we will be going through breeders from now on

Very good Doctors, have nothing but good experiences, however the reception staff have a habbit of keeping people waiting both on the phone and in person, was once on hold for 5 min just to be told “ok we’re done bye”
In summary if you’re wanting a doctor who you can be honest with and not get told off this is the place but be prepared to be on hold for agers making the appointment
