This hobby shop specialises in model trains and accessories (no surprise there, from the name), but also has a fantastic model railway display. It is a beautiful European mountain village setting, including a castle, carnival, town village and alpine ski slopes. And of course ,several trains moving through the mountain passes, villages etc. But also an operating tram car, ski lift, buses and other features you wouldnt expect. The detail is fantastic, so many small moving features and lights in buildings, etc. It is well worth a look, so much work. And only $6 entry. Children under 5 free, families $20, from memory.

Approximate cost: $6

A small little craft shop in the main street, manned by volunteers, I think. Had a nice range of locally made wares, including sewed items, clothing, jams and spreads and very tempting locally made cakes and biscuits. Reminded me of a good old-fashioned country stall, but housed in a little shop.

A nice, lawned, open park, situated a block back from the highway. Caravan sites are a good size and fairly level. Has a kiosk attached to the office, and the main street shops and eating houses are only a block away. The proprietor was very friendly, and also had a lot of information about things to see in the town and area, providing us with a double sheet plus map of the area, which included a tourist drive and many points of interest.

Approximate cost: $26 for 2, powered site.

This review is for Big Fish Fossil Hut, Peak Hill NSW

Very interesting little museum, displaying several display cabinets of various fossils from Australia and around the world, The main attraction is the 4.5 metre-long fossilized fish, which takes up one whole side-wall. Wouldnt have wanted to meet him while swimming.
We spent about half an hour. People with an interest in geology or paleontology would probably spend a lot longer.
People staying in the caravan park can view it for free, and others pay a small fee of $3.

Approximate cost: $3

A nice, big old store with a lot of items, from furniture to china and glassware etc. Neatly displayed and good width aisles so you can see all items without tripping over things or being overwhelmed by too many things packed into the available space, like some are. Prices were about what you would expect, but good quality rather than junk.

This review is for Peak Hill Information Centre, Peak Hill NSW

Very friendly people manning the centre. We spoke to 2 separate people, I assume were volunteers. Both older folk, who had a wealth of knowledge about the town and its history, and very willing to chat and share. Also in this building is a nice gallery and local crafts shop, and displays of items pertaining to the areas history. A lot of history in this town, well worth spending some time there and the information centre was a good place to start.

A very nice old shop with a good range of local painters pictures and other handicrafts etc. We bought a beautiful mantle clock carved from a piece of locally cut and polished timber. Very nice at $55. Also have on display various historical and mining items pertaining to the areas past. Very friendly service.

Fuel was cheaper than at the larger towns nearby on the highway. Had a good range of nibblies for travelling. Sold LPG replacement cylinders. Friendly assistant.

This review is for Woolworths, Murray Bridge SA

This is the brand new Woolies, just opened in Murray Bridge, so is very modern and up-to-date, so everything is bright, clean, shiney and brand-spanking new. Some of the new staff are still learning, but there is a pleasant enthusiasm to please customers, which is great. Range is good, prices comparable to the city. Plenty of parking in the 2-level carpark underneath, with an elevator or lift up to the shopping level. Good long hours, open til9pm, 7 days a week.

A very nice, neat store, with a good range of products. Some really good specials. Nice, friendly staff, all 3 on duty said hello to us. Appears to be family-run. Good hours, we called at 7.30pm on a Tuesday night. Located out of the busiest part of the main street, so easier to get to, with off-street parking right out the front.
