Great atmosphere, you really do feel like you are sitting at cafe in russia.
The waiting line can sometimes be a little deceptive, as the place is both a bakery & a cafe - sometimes the line is for the bakery counter, rather than people waiting to be seated.
The food is always good quality and authentic, and good value. For $4, your pot of tea comes accompanied by a small jug of hot water to refill the pot - so you end up having 2 cups of tea :)
The staff are also very friendly and understanding; I am allergic to dairy products so I always ask for my fruit compote to be served without the bowl of yoghurt. Instead of making me pay the full price ($12), I am usually charged $6. It is reasonable since the yoghurt is essentially half the dish - but nevertheless a much appreciated simple gesture!

Approximate cost: $12

There is no denying the quality of the bread and pastries here. Their sandwiches are delicious and prepared freshly, even for take aways.

It is not pram friendly at all and a silly hand written sign out front reminds those with young kids that this place is not for them.

I work in an office just around the corner and we often buy their food for business lunches and meetings.

It is such a shame that the attitude most of the female staff have is so poor.

There is a nice way to serve loyal customers and the staff at Babka really need a lesson in this.

Still it's an institution of sorts and Brunswick Street is a busy enough strip that for every disappointed customer, there are 10 new ones each day.

all the food is lovely, from the bread and pastries, to the pies, soups and salads. the service is ok, the ambience is always pleasant, and i have only ever gone at odd times (ie not breakfast) so have never had trouble getting a table.

Amazing bread, pastries and cakes. Nice place to lunch or coffee. Be prepared to wait in line for a table on weekends. Good service and friendly staff. Small, cosy cafe, better to go during the week.

Approximate cost: $15.00

Cute place with nice, brunch-type ambience. Good food, decent portions, good coffee and interesting menu. We waited about 25 minutes for a table which was a pain. It's only a small place but worth the wait. It is also a bakery so you can buy some quality pastries and breads on your way out. Worth the experience

A wonderful breakfast spot, the coffee is fantastic and the blintzes are an amazing breakfast treat. They also have a great range of bread and pastires which you can take away. It is hard to get a table thoguh so either get there early or be prepared to be patient and wait for a table.

Approximate cost: $12
