Went there tonight, granddaughter had finished her meal before only half of mine arrived. When the last bun arrived it was rock hard frozen still, my tempura vegetables did not arrive at all so I cancelled them paid and left. Wont be returning very disappointed given the recommendation I was given

I was sitting on a big table tonight, I was unsettled how rude customers were speaking to these lovely waitresses, it was obviously a busy night for Chat and they were doing their best. Lovely food and service, cant wait to eat there again.

The decor is beautifully traditional. I have to admit that I would prefer a seat that is a little more padded. The low wooden seats can be uncomfortable after a while.

Apart from that, I really like Chat for Tea. The vegetarian menu (Asian style) is extensive and there are some small snack-type choices in addition to the main meals. I am hooked on the dumplings. I share these with my good friend who is hooked on the teppanaki noodles. Both of these melt in your mouth. I think the menu would suit meat eaters too. There is nothing lacking.

The vanilla chai is very tasty too. There is a variety of non-alcoholic beverages available.

The service is courteous and respectful.

We generally visit around lunch time and there is plenty of seating available. The restaurant is not open every day, so it may be worth phoning in advance to check which days it's open. It is open in the evening and the variety of meals available makes C4T a viable choice.

I have now got my favourite restaurant. the teas are amazing, and I have never thought that vegetarian food can taste so good. I have now been going there for maybe 4 years or longer. the service is still fantastic and the food and drinks are always tasty... this is always the place I would take my family to have dinner or even just a light lunch.

We went there for lunch and had the Vietnamese spring rolls, Mock Duck and Tonkatsu. The meals were delicious and very filling. The restaurant is medium sized and has a lovely atmosphere. Great food and great service. Highly recommend.

This is my favorite restaurant in Ballarat. My partner and I take friends there often and the response is always the same; Cant believe how good vegetarian can taste! The drinks are so moreish too.The atmosphere is serene and calming and the owners and family are friendly and also very calming. Turn off your mobile phone and have a cup of tea and a tasty meal, try the mock duck it tastes like duck and the soy nuggets are delish, you will go back.

I visited Chat for Tea today with a friend who was visiting from Melbourne. Neither of us are vegetarian but we enjoy vegetarian food and were looking for somewhere nice and quiet to have some tea and chat (thought the name suggested this would be the right spot, haha!). After reading the reviews about the Pink Lady drink I thought I should try it.. Whilst I have no idea what was in it, it was delicious and looked equally as inviting! I had the satay chicken skewers and thought they were delicious, however could have been slightly warmer. My friend had the green curry and said it was amazing. While we didn't try the tea, it all was beautifully displayed and I will definitely be back to try some on a cooler day!

Approximate cost: $10-20

I had THE best tasting drink ever there. I cannot remember the name for the life of me but it was the best drink I've ever had. It was nearly bright pink in colour if you've ever had it before, I will be going back again this week for sure and I'll update this to let you all know, you have to try it. My friend also had a very nice tea there but we only had drinks, I'm going back for a meal this week.

The drink which you refer to may be their 'Pink Lady' and if this is indeed the case, it is the best drink I've ever had too! Obviously you have good taste!

It's a good little place, nice atmosphere and friendly, informal service.

For my tastes the food needs a bit more oomph, it's a little plain in my opinion, but still quite pleasant and certainly more interesting than most dining options in Ballarat.

Very reasonable prices, nice drinks. It's run by lovely people.

I want to give it four stars, I really do, but I can't quite do it, the food just needs a bit more flavour. That's just my opinion though and your preferences, dear reader, may differ. Some constructive advice for them would be to ensure that the food gets to the table a bit hotter, heat up the plates and get it out of the kitchen quickly once it is cooked.

I'll continue to go there, I want it to succeed.

Approximate cost: $12

A follow up to my review. As I hoped, this place has continued to improve. Recent meals there have been more flavourful and served hotter. Well done.
