Finally, a food outlet in Ballarat that takes their work seriously. That is, they provide an excellent product at a fair price. I have eaten there a number of times and have never been disappointed. The pizzas are well made, well cooked and they clearly take pride in their product.

Prices are higher than some more basic chains but the quality is much higher again.

I love this video shop. The lady who runs it is always friendly and helpful and so are the rest of the staff. They have a really good range of movies and have sufficient copies so that most things are in stock when you want them. I'm lucky to live close by and it's one of the best video hire shops I have used, here or in Melbourne.

Golden Nugget is ok but their standard bread loaves are the usual boring cotton wool stuff that you would pay about $1 for at Aldi or some fruit shops. You would pay $3 here. Cakes are ok but Rosenhart's (across the street) is cheaper and of at least equivalent standard. Golden Nugget has plenty of space to sit and the ladies who work there are friendly and helpful.

The vegetarian rolls are very nice. Their prices are reasonable and the ladies in the shop are friendly and helpful.. The cakes are ok but nothing special. Good decent local bakery.

I've only eaten here once but it was really quite good and the rest of the large group that I was with enjoyed their meals too. The menu had a good range of options at reasonable prices, including quite a few vegetarian options (not just the token pasta that many pubs offer).

This place is the perfect example of what it means to dine out in Ballarat - and I don't mean that as a compliment! It's not necessarily that bad but it's just another overpriced "modern" Ballarat cafe that has tickets on itself when you compare the prices charged to what it actually offers.

Food is of a reasonable quality but their prices are silly and they would not last a minute if they were exposed to the harsh glare of competition in a bigger city.

Coffee/cake prices are a particular rort.

Why do so many Ballarat people contribute to this by giving them (and others like them) their repeat business? I don't get it but there seems to be too many people in this town that know no better. I'd happily pay good money for good quality dining but it is almost non-existent in Ballarat (quality that is, they seem to manage on the prices!). You are much better eating simply in Ballarat if going out and save your palate and wallet for when you go to Melbourne.

It's a good little place, nice atmosphere and friendly, informal service.

For my tastes the food needs a bit more oomph, it's a little plain in my opinion, but still quite pleasant and certainly more interesting than most dining options in Ballarat.

Very reasonable prices, nice drinks. It's run by lovely people.

I want to give it four stars, I really do, but I can't quite do it, the food just needs a bit more flavour. That's just my opinion though and your preferences, dear reader, may differ. Some constructive advice for them would be to ensure that the food gets to the table a bit hotter, heat up the plates and get it out of the kitchen quickly once it is cooked.

I'll continue to go there, I want it to succeed.

I've had noodles from them a few times and they're generally pretty good. They seem a bit healthier than some other local options as they don't use too much oil.

Sometimes they have been a little overcooked for my liking.

Staff are helpful and patient with different orders.

This review is for La Porchetta, Ballarat VIC

verified email - 28 Apr 2009

La Porchetta is what it is, a busy, quick and friendly place to have a decent pizza at a decent price. They don't pretend to be more than what they are and frankly, this alone sets them apart from most dining options in Ballarat.

It's a great place to eat early with small children, the staff are very helpful and impressively tolerant of the noise, mess and general busy-ness of small children. We really appreciate this and it provides a "safe" place for our children to dine out and learn important social skills.

Nice pizzas, fair prices, quick and friendly service. They're good for take-away too.

Like many eating options in Ballarat, they remain in business because they don't have enough quality competition.

It's not terrible, but it's just not very good. Yet (again like most places in Ballarat) their prices are at the upper end for this style of food. About 20% more expensive than similar sushi bars for lower quality sushi. A bit soggy and bland in my opinion.

Service was fast and friendly.
