This place has a nice friendly atmosphere and all of the staff are very welcoming. There is a huge selection of food to choose from on the menu as well as delicious coffee. The prices are a bit high, but the food is definitely worth the money.

Very classic Brunswick Cafe, great coffee and a huge selection of things to eat. Quirky style both in look and feel, the atmosphere is friendly and enjoyable. Not super cheap but always a good meal.

Service good, friendly & fast. Concerned that no separate spoon given to use with sugar container on table. Too easy for people to lick their spoons & dip in it.
Crumbs on table from previous customer which should have been dealt with when that table was cleared.
Last but not least the coffee. The reason we were there. Had two different sorts. Much prefer the Nescafe packet in my hotel room.
Atmosphere great though. I'd go back to try the food but if you want good coffee give this one a miss!

The food is always so good here. Very innovative, wholesome, prettily presented, well portioned and reasonably priced.
For instance, on the day in question I ordered the Zucchini, Artichoke, Almond & Chia Fritters, this came as two rather large discs that were crispy on the outside, flavoursome & moist with real food rather than dough on the inside. It was served with a very generous bed of Corn Salsa, Avocado, Coriander & a Poached Egg for only $18.
The setting can take you aback if you have never been, a bit of a dark cavernous warehouse from the outside, but once inside it has a lovely charm.

Surprising is the word for this place - you would expect it to be full of hipsters, inattentive staff and over-the-top prices and food, but the menu is surprisingly varied and at reasonable prices, good options and very friendly and helpful staff. Great coffee and nice atmosphere. The only thing I would say could be improved is the lack of separation between the cafe and the roasting and office space out the back for the roasting. I guess some people would like this kind of authentic vibe but I would have preferred if it was separated, at least by a room screen or similar.
Nice and warm in winter. I think we'll come here again for a more substantial feed as we only had snacks and coffee but they were really great so I would expect the larger meals to be the same.

Came here for coffee and cakes. Good coffee and adequate sweet treats - we had the passionfruit cheesecake and the chocolate cake. Liked the spaciousness of the café, though seemed to lack airconditiong on a summer's day.

I was taken to this place by a friend, and was very grateful for being dragged along as I would never have gone myself. I really liked it. The atmosphere is casual and relaxed, but trendy and sophisticated at the same time. Menu wise, the food menu is varied and caters well for but people with large & small appetites and dietary requirements, with interesting food options. Salad eaters will be satisfied. Traditional breakfast eaters will find their beloved favourites on the menu in a fairly respectable form. The coffee is really good, they offer great coffee in various forms, ground in house.
To top it off, service is really warm and welcoming, and the bill is very very reasonably priced.

Approximate cost: $16

I came to Code Black for a coffee with friend last week who recommended it. Was pleasantly surprised by this cafe/coffee wholesaler tucked away on Weston St in a semi-industrial block. It's right next to Barkly Square, but off the main drag. I had a great toasted sandwich with hummus and grilled halloumi which was so filling I could only eat half. Iced hot chocolate's and coffee's were also delicious. Staff were friendly and helpful with food and drink. Building is open, warehouse, with a window allowing you to watch the chef's prepare your meal.
Stylish and with a James Bond theme. Definitely recommended for a good hearty brunch/lunch. Lots of breakfast options.
