After a seven year absence I took elderly overseas' visitors to Doyle's On the Beach at Watson's Bay. These old friends (nearly 80!) come to Sydney every five years or so and that's where they like to go, nowhere else! It started badly as they can't walk too well. From the car park we walked down a floor to the restaurant where we were made to walk outside along the beach to the queue to wait to be seated! We were then taken back upstairs to our table. Not the best beginning for two elderly people who can't walk very well!
However, seated with a beautiful view our fantastic food arrived so quickly! The place was absolutely full to bursting yet our food arrived within five minutes of ordering, "quicker than having to wait for the table" to quote my friends.
Often described as "expensive fish and chips" the quality had certainly got better since my previous visit. Yes, it is a lot of money but $40 for an average main fish and chips was really worth it. Other dishes were about the same price but the Fisherman's basket/platter is heaps more at about $170 for two. All well worth it!
The best part of the view, the afternoon, experience is that they are not in any hurry for you to leave. We were able to talk the afternoon away and for a 1PM lunch we walked out at 5PM!
Excellent experience and they had even saved us a parking spot in the car park!

Approximate cost: $40

If you are thinking of proposing to your new girlfriend at an awesome place with an awesome view and with great food this is the place to go. Awesome city view with the tables being nearly on the sand. I had john dori and it was so so good. With all of this though comes a high price, dont go if you dont wanna pay much

Doyles on the Beach, Watsons Bay. On this, the original site, they opened Australia's first seafood restaurant in 1885. They have been family owned and operated ever since.
This restaurant is stunning, right on the foreshore of Watsons Bay overlooking the magnificent Sydney Harbour. i have been coming here since I brought clients out whilst I was ironically the food and Beverage Manager of Sydney Opera House, in the 1980's this was as internationally famous and the place to be for Sydneysiders and tourists alike. It has always been of the freshest and highest quality that to this day I continue to take friends, family and overseas guests to this fine place.
Open lunch and dinner, 7 days a week.

Approximate cost: $Pricey but worth every cent

Had been four years between visits and we weren't disappointed. Food was as good as I remembered, if not better. The snapper was melt in your mouth good and the jumbo prawns were just heavenly. Service could have been a little better but overall well worth the visit - in fact we went back again 2 days later.

Approximate cost: $40

The ambience inside of the place is warm and great and the food available is also very impressive and of great value.

We were very disappointed last time we went. The seafood platter had risen $30 in a few months and it was missing items such as oysters and Balmain Bugs which were present before. It also contained piles of chips. I went with 2 chefs who commented how overcooked the stuffed prawns were and bland the raw prawns were. The fish also seemed lifeless. The lettuce in the salad also contained brown pieces so a chat with the manager was requested. He was a no-show!

Approximate cost: $65

One of Sydney's flagship restaurants. Nothing beats an early-evening meal watching the sun go down on Sydney harbour from this location. Good food, good winelist plus friendly, efficient service.

Approximate cost: $35.00

I found the restaurant very busy yet the staff were attentive and did a good job. The food was OK but rather over priced for what it was. I guess the menu just did not appeal to me very much.

We go to Doyle's On The Beach Watsons Bay every time we go to Sydney. It is the best seafood restaurant in Australia in my opinion. I love the Jumbo stuffed prawns and the char grilled octopus. And you can't go past the view!
