Dr Chee is my gynaecologist. I find her to be highy knowledgeable and relatable. The receptionist Carol is also very polite. Seeing a gyno is usually not high on most women's bucket list. These two ladies make it a much easier experience because of their warmth and professionalism.

Dr Chew was good. I had my bub in 2011 and 2nd one in 2013. Both were natural births although induced due to my particular circumstances. Waits were long but she was available when I was there. I had no complications post baby from stitches or healing. She was decisive when she needed to be.I knew I was in good hands.

Also had friend/ family who have also given birth to healthy babies.

Saw Dr Chew 8 years ago to support my first pregnancy.
She seemed nice and jovial to begin with where she seemed appealing to us both, then the cracks started to show around 6-8mths of the pregnancy.
When my partner wasn’t able to attend some of the appointments I started to notice a shift in her manner where she would use the worst case scenarios in pushing for a caesarian. My babies developments were above average but were not concerning as genetically we are a tall family. By 37 weeks my child wasn’t engaging and again she pushed the issue with the baby being too large and the huge risk with shoulder dystochia where I would be positioned in an exposed position for all to see it I had to transferred to surgery.
She described how she may have to break the baby’s arm to get them out. I could see in reflection she was using a heck of a lot of scare tactics to persuade a first time parent. And I was feeling incredibly overwhelmed and guilty that I wanted to opt for a natural delivery.
I certainly appreciate the risks involved and took them seriously but felt she was pushing far too much where we were not showing significant signs of needing to go down that route.
I respect the fact plans can change but to be unnecessarily pressured like that was unhelpful and was ringing alarm bells.
I spoke to a friend who worked as a private midwife who once I mentioned her name said that Dr Chew is notorious for pushing for caesarian as it doesn’t impact on her out of hours time. I was shocked to hear this.
My partner was insistent on going ahead with her suggestions and we booked the caesarian just under 39weeks.
Our baby was born 8lbs and 34cm long.
No issues at the time but I felt she wasn’t doing a lot of patient care post partum. The caesarian stitching involved internal stitching as well as a slightly hanging piece of stitch attached to both ends of the wound which seemed really odd and a hinderance. And something I would have expected from the 90’s and not post 2010.
I stayed for the whole time as required at the hospital where I started to notice intense burning along one side of the wound. It wasn’t obviously inflamed but every so often there would be an intense hot grabbing sensation that would stop me in my tracks. This worsened over the weeks. I was struggling to the point where I would ring the reception asking if Dr Chew could call me.
She had two receptionists at the time, a LOVELY Asian girl and Carol who was robotic and damn rude.
I unfortunately always had Carol answering asking the same intrusive questions that only a physician should have asked. After the first couple of times of calling and explaining the same issue but not receiving a returned call from Dr Chew, I told Carol I was not wanting to explain the same details over and over and that I was struggling with the pain. I still never received a call back from Dr Chew.
I ended up going to my GP for support with the matter and turned out I had an infection (clearly) but it was initially internal and for that reason wouldn’t you expect Dr Chew to take the description seriously and follow it up? Who knows if Carol the medical receptionist did any thing about it.
I don’t feel the matter was handled well.
To add I was still bleeding by 11 weeks and it was around this time at a maternal and child health appointment I explained how I was passing brown matter that smelled like dead tissue. Her eyes opened wide and she said “you have to see your doctor about this now!” Well I did ask to speak to Dr Chew about that, and again was asked intrusive questions by Carol the medical receptionist.
However after two cancelled and then rescheduled appts by Carol (and despite explaining to her additional to the other information that I was still bleeding by week 11 which was of a foul odour), i never received a call.
My GP took care of it all.
Finally my last appointment with Dr Chew and it was brief where she basically did the big smile and jovial manner like in the beginning along with the sales pitch of “don’t forget me when you have your next baby!”
I was surprised she thought I would even consider it when I updated her on my struggles with the infection and ongoing bleeding that I had to follow up with the GP as I didn’t receive a call from her. She dismissed it as something the GP could handle... really? Her botchy workmanship. That’s not a good work ethic or taking the duty of care I would have expected from someone you’re spending a 2-3 thousand dollars for.
Apologies this is sooo long winded but it is completely true and I felt it had to be shared to spare anyone else the same or even worse.
My next child I had under a different OB who was wonderful and made the next experience better, and kept tabs on me post partum. I’ve discovered since them that the medical world keep tabs on each other and many many times I have heard negative reviews about her from an orderly and midwives where I had my other child.
If she could stop and reassess her practice and work from a place of consistent genuine concern, it would have been noticed.
And I hope I don’t have to write a review about a health professional like this ever again. It shouldn’t even happen!

Oh my gosh, what an awful experience! My second bub inhad a great experience with another ob and hospital, but it still doesnt diminish the terrible, bullying dr chew put me through for my first. I hope she gets seriously scrutinised for her practice and lack of care in the future!

Dr. Chew is a patient obstetrician. Her secretary Carol is very rude when i asked if Dr. Chew can give me a call when she is free as i have some concerns. She asked what my concerns are and said the symptoms i am currently experiencing is quite normal. She is not a Dr and i don't think she should answer a patient's question. Also , she did not send any reminder prior to appointments.

Sorry this was your experience but it says a lot about the practice and the receptionist. Like attracts like, and Carol the robotic receptionist needed a heart and conscience. Just a money making practice without a genuine heart.

I just had my first baby with Dr Chew upon recommendation & reading more positive comments than any other female obstetrician in the area. Yes there is usually a bit of a wait in the waiting room but she is lovely & you never feel rushed. I dont mind waiting to see the best doctor. [redacted due to clinical content] Very happy & will choose her for my next baby.

Approximate cost: $2000

Hi I'm first timer, do you mind if I ask how much out of pocket fees for the whole delivery process from dr chew? I called and reception claimed $2000 maintenance fee at 24th week, any other costs from dr chew after labour? Thanks! And congrats!

Dr Chew is lovely and a great gyno, I'm thankful for all she's done. But that actual practice is ridiculous. I literally walked in her office for 2 minutes, after waiting 20 minutes to see her, and walked out with my results of all clear. I go to walk out the door, but no I get stopped and have to pay, yes there was a Medicare rebate, but I was in there for 2 minutes. Come on now..!

I cant give her much comment as this is just my second appointment with her and it seems like she is very bad at managing time with the patients. It's just bad. Imagine we are all pregnant and have to wait to see her at night and waiting for hours before we can see her. From 8pm to 12am at night? Isnt it rediculas? I dont know what to say but I just hope she will be good on my delivery.

Dr Chew herself is amazing. I highly recommend her. However the waiting time and rescheduling of appointments is a major issue. Women are called and rescheduled half an hour later, yet are still expected to wait hours to be seen. I think the receptionist should reschedule appointments within a more realistic timeframe.

Dr Chew is a great obstetrician and I am having my third baby with her. It's well worth the waiting time because she will not rush the consultation just because there are people waiting. She is so popular now, to the extend she needs to have a cap on the no. of patient she is seeing (starting this year) per month so as not to reduce the quality of her care to her patients. I will suggest early booking should you want her.

As a gynecologist she is amazing, but the practice is always so busy. Appointments are either late or rescheduled and she only had the colposcopy equipment once in a blue moon. I've been stuffed around so many times I'm just over it. It's a pity because as a person and Dr she's fantastic.

Dr Chew was my Doctor for both of my babies born in 2010 & 2012. And if there was a #3 she would be the only person I would go too. My Partner & I can not speak highly enough of Dr Chew - she manages to deliver an incredibly high professional service along with being very personal and down to earth. She runs on Coke, Peanut Butter Cups & a great sense of humour as I am not sure if she ever has a chance to stop and eat. Although her appointments often run behind schedule (I have no idea anyway how anyone is able to schedule appointments around babies being born as they never let you know when it's going to happen!!) her team are great as they will often call to let you know or you can always call them to check. They are all lovely too. Chee Kuan will always give you her total attention and will never rush you during an appointment, no matter how many people in the waiting room. She was always available for me when I had any concerns with my pregnancies. Her fees are also really great value too. I can't recommend her enough.

My first bub was delivered at Knox Private - great hospital and midwives - unfortunately not so positive feedback on the obstetrician. Being new to this as a first time Mum, you rely on your obstetrician for support and guidance through the process. This obstetrician ignored hat I had a birth plan, and was not very keen (and had her own reasons) for me to pursue a c-section delivery and induction from early on in the pregnancy, when I or bub had no real issues and my pregnancy was managed well. My c-section scar had string left in it which I found several months after bub's delivery, and at the 6 week checkup after delivery she was more interested in "upselling" to see her for my second bub rather than checking my post-delivery health. Although chatty and reasonably friendly consultations, unfortunately her process of discussion and negotiation was somewhat unethical and used horror stories. A disappointing experience for a new Mum and I wouldn't go back to her in the future. The midwives at Knox were however absolutely fantastic to deal with.

Oh wow looks like you had the same experience as me!! I was recommended by a GP who observed her as a student. I commented recently despite being her patient 8yrs ago. I had been wanting to comment about her for a long time, and following a caesarian that wasnt essential and left me with some other issues, I wanted to encourage others to look elsewhere.

I chose Dr Chew for my first pregnancy in 2010, after reading positive reviews on the internet. I am so pleased I did. As the other reviews have described she has a great bed side manner, which I can't say for many other specialists! Her prices are also reasonable compared to other doctors. I am about to go back to her for baby #2. You will always leave an appointment with a smile on your face, such a lovely lady.

Hi Katie,
Im glad you had a pleasant experience with your first. Mine with Dr Chew was very different. Just wondering if she respected your birthplan or were you pressured to do what she wanted?

Dr Chew is fantastic. Probably the best Dr I have ever had. She is smart, pays attention to what you say, is chatty and loves a laugh while still being completely professional. I have not felt in safer hands. I had 2 babies with her and would not hesitate to recommend her to friends and family. She loves delivering healthy babies as much as people love having them! She will always make every effort to be at the birth too, not like some!! Cant rave enough..

I had my first pregnancy and child under Chee Kuan's care in 2010 - she was AMAZING! I always felt that I was given her full attention and time. She usually ran right on time for appointments (incredible given the nature of this field of work). When I had PROM, then induction, labour and natural delivery, she was there at all the right times even though it was outside of normal business hours. Above all, my partner and I adored Chee Kuan's sense of humour, sharp intelligence and personal attention - she made us feel that the birth of our child was as important to her as it was to us. Highly, highly recommend her and will return when it's time for #2.

We just had our first baby and she has been given us excellent services including friendly caring, advices regardless time of the day. Her service fees are bit less than other Specialists in the area. She actually cares for her patients. We are really pleased with her in all aspects.
