Still the best fish and chips shop in Ballarat, and we've tried lots of them. We usually have flake, chips and their 'real' potato cakes. It's always fresh, delicious, and good sized portions. It's well cooked, not too oily, and crunchy light batter. It's a winner all round. At busy times you can phone your order and it will be ready for you at a nominated time.

Upon entering the store you are confronted with a HUGE menu to choose from. This was more daunting than useful at first as it covered two walls and seemed to be rather jumbled.

The quality of the food however is simply amazing. The different oil that is used is immediately apparent (especially in their "real" potato cakes) and tastes much nicer than all other places that we have been to. The flake, while costing a little bit more, is much larger than most other places and falls apart beautifully in your mouth.

We have definitely found our new local.

We have had fish and chips from Fair Dinkum several times and they are the best we've tried in Ballarat. The potato cakes are delicious. Consistent quality and prompt, friendly service.

Occasionally we get take-away, we always choose Fair Dinkum Fish & Chips, you need to order early for Friday nights, but that means you just need to be organised. The best in Ballarat. Everything about the way they run their business is fantastic.

The best f&c shop around. The staff are great but the food is absolutely awesome! Can't go past the swagman steak sandwiches. Have recommended to many and all come back so happy. Looking forward to the next pick up :)

Always friendly, professional, and as quick as this very well known and popular fish and chippery can be! HUGE choice of food and meal packs, with Senior discounts, and discount evenings. I would suggest visiting thier website (www.fairdinkumfishnchips.com.au) to browse thier menu, and you can order your meal over the phone. They will even SMS or call you when it is about ready during busy times. You can even ring up earlier in the day and nominate a time you want the order ready! Now THAT'S service. While in the area, if you would like a cup of tea and a light English-style cake, visit The Vintage China Company, two doors along.

After trying out two alternative fish and chip shops in Ballarat (ones that were highly rated), we have come back to Fair Dinkum. The quality of the food here is exceptional and they have a huge range of items on their menu (such as the South Melbourne dim sims, huge range of fresh fish and deep fried treats). The batter is always crispy and not too thick, and the potato cakes are clearly home made, not frozen. Don't expect to walk in and wait 10 minutes for your order, I highly recommend phoning your order in advance as it can take around half an hour before your food is ready; they are very popular! Like most fish and chip shops they are closed Mondays (and possibly Tuesdays?) but it's definitely worth the wait until the weekend for food from here!
