Unfortunately, GC's is really just average on all fronts - I agree with the last review that laments the generalised lack of quality in Ballarat, and GC's in some ways typifies this situation. It is expensive but underwhelming.
This place is the perfect example of what it means to dine out in Ballarat - and I don't mean that as a compliment! It's not necessarily that bad but it's just another overpriced "modern" Ballarat cafe that has tickets on itself when you compare the prices charged to what it actually offers.
Food is of a reasonable quality but their prices are silly and they would not last a minute if they were exposed to the harsh glare of competition in a bigger city.
Coffee/cake prices are a particular rort.
Why do so many Ballarat people contribute to this by giving them (and others like them) their repeat business? I don't get it but there seems to be too many people in this town that know no better. I'd happily pay good money for good quality dining but it is almost non-existent in Ballarat (quality that is, they seem to manage on the prices!). You are much better eating simply in Ballarat if going out and save your palate and wallet for when you go to Melbourne.
Approximate cost: $25-30
Couldn't agree more. Very sad state of dining standards in Ballarat.
The food quality is mostly consistent here, but the the pricing is a bit too much. Especially for the coffee and cakes, you don't get change from a $10 for the both. Service needs improving maybe table service would be an option?
Approximate cost: $17.00
I have tried to give Gee Cees a good hardy go after a fairly rough start, and I have found that the food and drinks have gotten consistently better the more that I go there. I find it a comfortable place to catch up with friends to have drinks and snacks.
it is a really nice place to go for a milkshake or beer on a hot summers night and they also have a really good function room. their prices are ok and they have free wireless internet available.
Approximate cost: $24
Went recently to see how the new owners are doing - slightly disappointed with the new 'style', but at least the food was still good. I think it will pick up again, once the new owners start to settle in. The decor is still the same, and It's still a lovely looking venue.
We ate here tonight because I read the good things CarlyO wrote about the Calamari on WOMOW and I wanted to try it myself. It was fantastic!!! The calamari is done in a sweat chill stirfry with Hokien noodles. It is delicious as the flavours of the calamri blend nicely with the vegies and chilli along with a hint of BBQ flavour. I am glad I read the WOMOW description because I would not normally have order this dish. I can definately recommend it.
Approximate cost: $21
Gee Cees have an impressive menu. The food itself is tasty and plentiful. The staff are efficient and they have an impressive bar. The pumpkin salad is well worth a try.
good atmosphere, good food, easy location, great for meals, after work drinks, the fire in the side room makes for a good cozy location
Approximate cost: $20
eaten here many times, always go for the same things though. I love the salt n pepper calamari with noodles and the sweet and sour chilli pizza. always a great atmosphere and good food and drink. has both normal meals area and a more trndy area to suit different types of people also.
Approximate cost: $20.00
