10 reviews about Gungahlin Veterinary Hospital

We live around the area, and know better not to go to them unless is absolutely an emergency. Unfortunately our cat and dogs often decide to fall critically ill on Sunday nights. On one occasion, our dog cut his foot when out walking, the vet charged us $350, just to put some bandage around the wound (didn't even clean the wound). That's is usually tolerable, because we have pet insurance, so the expensive bills are often partially covered by the insurance.
One thing the Gungahlin Vet/emergency hospital really let us down is how they treat our cat. He had a heart failure due to HCM and his lung was filling up with liquid. The vet gave him meds to clear the liquid in the hospital. But when they discharged our cat, they refused to prescribe the medication to continue drain the liquid unless we do an ultrasound and CT and consult with their specialist. So we came home with a still really sick cat with no medication who is continuing drawn slowly.
We saw our cat suffering and booked an emergency appointment with their cat hospital under their recommendations in the hope of starting a treatment asap. The so-called specialist ignored all our cats vet history, symptoms and went ahead with procedures which put so much more stress on cat's heart which lead to a complete organ failure. And the best part is they turn around slap us with a 4500 dollars bill, including the charge of the suppose CT and ultrasound scan, which I am sure they didn't even performance given the amount of time he was in with the specialist. They did send us some flowers afterwards tho, which are the most expensive flowers I ever see.
So in short, Gungahlin Vet killed my cat. I would give them negative score if I can.

Extremely expensive compared to other vets in the area. The level of service we received was also well below what we now get. Unless it's an emergency and you have no choice other than to use this business, I strongly suggest you shop around.

I found them to be a fairly standard vet clinic. Some vets here are great, others seem 'over it'. Each time it's been hit and miss depending on the Vet.

These guys are fantastic. We had a cat who was not very sociable and tony was incredibly gentle and patient with him. He is the only vet that didnt need to sedate him to examine him all due to letting my cat settle before touchng him. Great front desk staff to. Wont go to another vet. Fantastic!

We went to them a number of times, as we lived around the area. The front desk staff were always lovely, and I was never left waiting a long time to see the vet around my booking. I was always happy with the treatment my dog and I received, and though I wouldn't rave about it I always felt my dog was in good hands.

While I was in Canberra~My dog had 2 blood test to see if she had Cushings $400~I told the vet I would want the results as I was going overseas and she was booked in to have surgery with another vet for a ruptured cruciate. He agreed~I phoned for the results to be emailed to me. They would not give me the results~My dog later died had I got the results I would not have let her have the operation on her leg. Neither would I have given her the pain killers that the Gungahlin vet gave me for her pain. If they did not want to give me the results at least they could have emailed me to confirm she had Cushings and how bad it was. And to tell me the Pain killers is not good for her condition and to hold off on her surgery~I feel that as they had the information of her condition they could have at least emailed me to let me know,

These guys are fantastic. Very knowledgeable with 'exotic' pets (rats, rabbits) and very good with the animals. I have had to get several pets put down here, and the staff were always sympathetic and kind, and completely respectful to the deceased pets - I even received a card in the mail from them expressing their sympathy for my loss. I now take my rabbits to see them, and both have had hassle free desexing operations and I'm very happy. It's well worth the drive out to Gungahlin to see them.

Whilst visiting our son in Ngunnawal, one of our kittens came down with a gastric bug. Having just picked him up 2 weeks ago from the RSPCA in Newcastle, we really did not know where to head. Having to drive to the RSPCA in Weston was to far. The vet was very understanding. Prescibed some anibiotics. 5 days later the kitten back to his usual self. Happy with the service
