I enjoyed the atmosphere of the night and staff were accommodating but a couple of us didn't enjoy our food very much. I had a noodle dish which I couldn't finish. My friends enjoyed their curries though, one of them had the goat curry and said it was very nice but could have done with more meat and another the potato dish which was also tasty. I would recommend the cocktails - very good!

I love goat curry, but coaktails at a nepalise restaurant? never heard of it. Would like to give this place a go since gurka's cottage in Malvern closed down.

I get regular delivery from the Prahran Gurkha's and although I love their dishes - the aloo rayo (potato with mustard greens) in particular - it's most often a frustrating experience. The delivery service is always very slow (an hour on average but up to 90mins and I only live 5mins away), and order mix ups happen reasonably often. If I didn't like the mustard greens so much and if I knew anywhere else to get them in Melbourne I suspect I'd have given up by now but they are SO GOOD I keep putting up with the atrocious service. So beware - don't expect your meal to arrive anytime soon - but it's likely to be so good it'll suck you in to putting up with the worst delivery service ever.

My partner and I have been going here for years. I think we even had our first date here! Sometimes the service is less than perfect and sometimes the curries may contain a few less pieces of chicken or meat than you'd expect but overall the price, food quality and ambience is fantastic. Try the bajgun alaroo (eggplant side dish) the beef naan bread and goat curry are delicious. Make sure you bring a bottle of wine as they are good with BYO too!

There are so many good reviews for this place and I have been to the other outlet in Lygon street some years ago and enjoyed it. Last Saturday I went to the Prahran outlet and it really sucked. We ordered 3 main courses and the customary rice and naan. The three curries were tasteless - in fact that tasted watery giving the impression that the kitchen was keen to extend servings by thinning out the sauce a bit. We ate it but all three of us didnt enjoy it and at the end of the meal and after paying, I said to the waiter to feed that back to the kitchen. We weren't after a discount or anything for free - just some feedback and the waiter told us we should have ordered something else and he was too busy anyway to feed it back to the kitchen. The tip was prompty withdrawn from the tray and we left disgruntled. Let's just say I will never be going back to that or any other Gurkhas outlet.

I am always surprised when a business just lets a customer slide like this. I stand 100% behind this review and I have told it in person to many people who have subsequently refused to then go there even if others said it was okay. WOMO.com is a valuable tool for a business if they use it right but when a management / ownership team is too stupid to seek to address a disgruntled customer - they lose so much more than just that customer. Your reputation in business is all have, your entire investment is built around it and yet because inept management / owners don't assign to it a monetary value, it gets damaged with every bad comment.

Some customers are naturally tough but when they are - address it and have your side of a story to tell. The customer isn't always right but ignoring their criticism is always wrong.

I didn't want anything from Ghurka's - however a note replying to this saying sorry, and your comments are valued starts to repair the incentive of me telling how bad this place is. Not to worry - I make a better curry anyway.

I totally agree with this review. The food was watered down and their claim of all you can eat is because the quality is sub-standard.

We recently went to Gurkhas for a friends birthday, and we got the "all you can eat" sample item that they advertised. The lamb was delicious and the other dishes were very good as well. They were very quick to clear our table, strongly hinting for us to get out, and were literally taking our plates away as soon as they were empty, even though it was suppossedly "all you can eat". Would go back, but will just order something from the menu instead.

I love eating here. The staff are always honest with meal portions (making sure you don't over order and waste food) and are very courteous. Their goat is brilliant and tender, it's always great to come here with friends

Great place for a cheap and cheerful meal. Service a bit slow but it was full. Food was delicious and great value for money. Its also BYOB which is great. Used a shop-a-docket the night I was there and there was no fuss.

I highly suggest ordering a menu. It's a great overview of what they have to offer. I prefer the curries to the stir fries. I love to sit on the floor there as well; it just adds something to the experience.
