i love harvey norman. i always go there for whatever i need especially electrical items. not so much furniture. the staff were willing to help all the time. they even threw in a discount sometimes. they are a competitive store but i believe this is a good thing. the quality of the items is amazing. i highly rate this store.

Purchased a GPS and asked the sales person if it did a specific thing got the unit home and it did not perform as promised.

The map did not have the required information on it.

This staff member lied to make a sale.

Hi Donn, itâ??s a shame that your experience failed to mirror that of Ioanat (above), as they appear to have been treated in an honest and ethical manner. Out of curiosity, how are you so sure that the salesperson in question lied and that the issue wasnâ??t merely due to their ignorance? Either way, under Australian Consumer Law, you would have been legally entitled to a refund. Itâ??s always disappointing to be sold a product that fails to perform as expected. I furnished my whole house in one night here and was treated really, really well, however when it came to delivery day and some things were damaged and we rang them up the didnt even want to speak to me, they replaced my dining table 3 times all 3 times damaged, eventually i said ill just have my money back, that took about 2weeks, and my bedroom suite replaced twice, not very happy when you spend $15,000.00 in one night...

Hi Darreng1, unfortunately price tags do not determine overall quality, which you have sorely discovered. We too had a similar experience with a Harvey Norman outlet who appeared to be genuinely helpful, until the $3,000 item arrived at our door, sporting unrepairable damage. Are these salespeople really that ignorant to believe that we (consumers) will forget how shockingly we were treated after the transaction? While they may indeed make a â??tidy commission,â?? they can be assured of one thing: an unhappy consumer will be sure not to make the same mistake again! At the end of the day, surely even the most dimwitted salesperson would have to realize that it is in their best (financial) interests to ensure that each customer vacates the store feeling satisfied with their purchase and the manner in which they were treated. After all, a content customer has the potential to refer many others, thus making the sales representative (and the store) more money in the future. From a Harvey Norman standpoint, it would appear that greed and short-term gain outweighs common sense, thus affecting overall profitability. We sincerely hope the issues you faced (with the dining table and the bedroom suite) have been permanently resolved to your complete satisfaction. Regards, Reeces

I love Harvey Norman, they have very competative prices and most of the time when I ask what's your best price they will knock a few dollars of the price. ie: I bought an SLR camera last year; the price was $1,400 and they gave it to me for $1,250.

Purchased a 'supposedly' top of the range Ariston washing machine, but in 3 years after paying $2000 for the unit it broke and couldn't be fixed. Harvey Norman were no help in solving the problem and just said "sorry I can't help you because it's out of warranty!" Pathetic when I found out they own part of the company and make a fortune off of it! I have spent 3 weeks without a washing machine because I can't afford to fix it let alone get a new one. Make sure that you do your research before you buy the product and don't listen to lies.

3 out of five for me, questionable service, esp at busy times you really need to know what you want otherwise they will try to stuff anything down your throat!! but the prices are the best.

I enjoy going to Harvey Norman when I know what I want, but it's sometimes hard to get service as they are all so busy, they have every-thing we would need to fill a house.

My insurance company use them and they replaced my laptop after i dropped it. Staff were very honest and gave great information about their products. Unfortunately felt a bit pressured to upgrade when i couldnt afford it.

Hi Staceym4, while it is unethical (and unlawful) for any business to knowingly con a struggling consumer into an upgrade (that in most cases they do not require), it still happens, especially in these outlets. It is vital that consumers know their rights and stand their ground when it comes to such things. Our advice is simple: Conduct your own research (prior to purchase) and do not allow any salesperson to bully you into a sale on the day.
