Visited this hotel for a break from the hot weather and enjoyed a cool drink here. A pleasant spot which is well presented. Noticed that there is a nice modern bistro area with a good menu available. Will come at a meal time when next in the area.

Always been a good choice for my young family. We tend to go on the quiter nights with some extended family. Kids eat free on Monday/Tuesday nights. Good job encouraging families to your business, more places should be encouraging it.

Approximate cost: $25

This is a pleasant place to go for a drink or a meal. The food is good and the service good. The only problem is that the outdoor area closes at 11pm.

Went with the family for a special occasion lunch. My adult kids said they had been before and was very nice, so we decided to give it a try.
The new refurbishments make it an interesting-looking place. Very modern, but quite nice, especially the outdoor indoor area (the best way I can describe it, sort of outdoor, but can be closed in).
Staff were friendly, took a while for meals to come, but it was busy. Most of the family enjoyed their meal, but I wasnt so happy with mine.
I had the duck, with potato & pecan croquet, pear & quince glaze. (all foods that I really like). But, the duck wasnt properly cooked, and this made the whole dish very unappealing and not pleasant to eat, and I definitely wouldnt try it again.
Atmosphere of the pub is quite good, would particularly suit the younger crowd.

Approximate cost: $29 for duck dish.

The holdfast has a good range on their menu you can always find something. It looks lovely since being renovated and has a nice outdoor garden area. Service is always friendly and fast.

Great schnitzel!!! Not so keen on the 'new' decor - a bit cold and almost sterile. Staff are still friendly though.

Holdfast hotel is a very modern, almost cubist, building located down Brighton Road in Glenelg. It's all grey and glass angles, and it certainly makes you feel like you're there for a former occasion rather than for a beer at the local. They do a variety of foods, from your usual pub schnitzels and burgers, to far more decadent and flavoursome cuisine. As I was having a few drinks, I opted for the standard chicken schnitzel with mushroom sauce, which happened to be delicious, although maybe next time I'll try the duck risotto. Great service, good quality and reasonable price.

Approximate cost: $16

This is a nicely renovated pub with an interesting menu combining classic pub favourites and some new ideas as well. The food is always well prepared and the service always comes with a smile. Even when it is busy, meals seem to be served pretty quick and the prices are in line with other similar pubs:)
