When in Adelaide, I always make a point of visiting Mekong Thai. A poky little place in the heartbeat of Adelaide, the portions are generous and very cheap. The place is always busy, menu extensive. Service is a little hit and miss, but it makes up with the great food you are served. Do not miss in Adelaide!

If you want quick cheap and reasonably good food, you can come over here to eat. They have many Thai dishes includes pad Thai, green curry red curry etc.. The environment is quite special with lotsa wood carvings but still reminds me of the time I went to Thai. You can try it out for yourself :)

Approximate cost: $10

This is a love it or you'll hate it kind of place. It's definitely a cheap eats rather than date night or fancy setting, but I've eaten here a number of times and the food has always been really good.

You know that kind of thai/malay food that is just easy to eat, not threatening or challenging, the kind that those of us with western palates have adapted to over years of exposure?

That's what they specialise in! If you want something more challenging or unique you might not like this kind of menu. But I've enjoyed myself so much every time I've stopped in for lunch with friends, brought vego friends there because of their extensive vego menu, and had relaxed after work dinners.

I don't want to give the impression that I don't like a challenge or that I have a super bland palate, but I do get a bit tired of all the fancy dramatic cuisine that chefs serve up, which rather than pleasing customers, seems aimed at proving their artistry and superior style. Give me easy, cheap, fragrant and delicious and I'm happy.

Also, I've noticed other websites make a big deal about the interior of the restaurant not being very new, but I personally find the old carvings and traditional style décor really nice and the restaurant comfortable. I think it might partly be a lack of exposure to that kind of thing that makes people judge it!

I would recommend this restaurant if you are in the area and like thai food.
