There are many different exhibitions here, but this time we went expecially to see the WW1 Centenary exhibition.Very well presented. Lots of reading, personel diaries, and images. Films and the real sound of war. Gives you a very good understanding of the trauma that the solders went through and also there families. Only here for a limited time so a must see. Allow yourself at least 90 minutes to just see that section. Very educational, and staff very helpful from the front counter to the exhibitions.

Amazing museum and HUGE. my wife and I took our daughter here whilst we were visiting on holidays and it is one of our favourite museums in Aus!!! One of our facourites was the dinosaur exhibit, just awesome. Would love to take our son here some time. Entry prices are pretty decent also.

i have taken my daughter to the museum so many times over the years and she never grows bored of it. There is so many different exhibitions to look at. my daughter loved going to the childrens area when she was younger but now prefers to walk around and look at all the different things. Her favourite now is the bugs and animal display. excellent place to take you kids for a fun and educational day out. It is free for children and $10 for adults. The staff are helpful and will point you in the right direction if you are looking for something

Truly a wonderful place to visit, its very fascinating for kids and adults alike

I have been to the museum many times over the years and have brought along overseas guests to see something different in our great city of Melbourne.

My favourite exhibition would be Phar Lap as it reminds me of my childhood visit in primary school and seeing Australia's best horse.

There is plenty of parking available nearby.

There is a lovely café for a light snack or lunch or a coffee which is good to chill out and relax whilst looking around.

There are so many exhibits to look at in the museum including lots of interactive exhibits that can keep you entertained for a few hours.

I visited the museum when they had a special Egyptian mummy exhibition on. It was very crowded in this area of the museum but quite fascinating and worth the wait.

The entry fee is great with kids free and adults tickets only about $10. It makes it a very affordable family outing.

Approximate cost: $10

Love taking the kids here. Its very educational - the animal displays are very cool, but its the dinosaurs that always draw us in. They have quite a few and they are very well arranged. The Phar Lap display is very impressive as well, as are the "Melbourne in the old days" displays.
One of the best things about it is the price! Its remarkably cheap for all that it offers, and that makes it one of the best value places in Melbourne to take the kids for an afternoon, or even just to wander around yourself.

Melbourne Museum is located in Carlton, just north of the Melbourne CBD. I have visited Melbourne Museum several times and also took friends/family there when they were on holiday in Australia. The exhibits are very special, not only on a rainy day, but start as early as you can, because there is a lot going on there.
Watch out for Phar Lap inside the glass jar, he looks so superior! The museum's dinosaur, taxidermy and bug collections are awesome and the Human Body and Mind exhibits are also very interesting and entertaining. Funniest thing I remember were the different sounds of human flatulence :) And don't miss walking through the huge mystery box!
The Museum is open daily from 10am to 5pm. There are a shop, a café and toilets inside the building. I would recommend a visit in combination with an IMAX cinema movie experience. Did it once and had a day full of joy and entertainment.

Approximate cost: $General Museum entry AUD 10

My Family and I love going to the Melbourne Museum to see different exhibits such as Dinosaurs, Phar Lap, Forest Secrets (where you can walk through a rain forest - kids love this), The Mind - Enter the Labyrinth, The Melbourne Story (where you can look at when your Suburb was first opened) and many more interesting things.

During the School holidays they also have different things to amuse the kids - My kids did "Build a City of Melbourne" and there were heaps of structures laid out on the floor representing what the kids thought that Melbourne looked like. Very interesting.

Approximate cost: $10 Adults, Kids Free
