Another one of my regular haunts when I lived in Melbourne, always go there when I visit - Fridays are home made gnocchi day...get in early as it always sells out...and the granita is to die for. Sisto the owner, is an absolute gem...miss his company and smiles the most!

this place is one of the few melbourne icons that hasn't been taken over and "renovated" by the "in-crowd"...the coffee is about the best you'll get in this town, and the pasta great, generous and really fantastic value for money.

Love the lo-fi vibe at Pellegrinis. Always pumping busy whether you're there in the morning, lunchtime or at night - a good sign! Sit up at the counter and enjoy a bowl of pasta or just pop in for a coffee, granita, cake or iced chocolate - it's all good! The blase reticent service adds to the charm of the place.

Whenever we are in the city we definitely go to this lovely coffee shop...quick and efficient service, one of the best coffee's I've had, and I want to try their pasta too, looks pretty amazing!

Take a trip back in time to a more relaxed pace and you land in the 1960s! Visit Pellegrinis and you'll experience home cooking that's simple and wholesome. Menu is limited and yes, the granitas are great, so is the coffee and the desserts are something else. But it's the throwback to a simpler, more relaxed and home style atmosphere along with consistenly good food that makes Pellegrinis what it is. Your choice is basically pasta, pasta and pasta, however when you taste it you understand why they don't go outside the range that has been so for the life of the place. If you're a group of four or more, try going to the back and eating in the kitchen, it will give you a feeling of being in an Italian home with your Mom cooking at the stove, about to serve you!

Approximate cost: $15

Pellegrinis IS a Melbourne Institution. The coffee is consistent - not the best in town, but it is good. What I love most is that nothing much, rather nothing has changed in the last 30 odd years. Oh, you just have to experience pasta at mama's table in the kitchen. Love the vibe.

This place must be Melbourne's worst-kept secret! Try the home-made granita - it's to die for on a hot day. The coffee is consistently good and the service is warm. Become part of an institution and dine at Pellegrinis.
