Really didn't enjoy my experience. The manager was incredibly rude to us and rolled her eyes at us when we asking for gluten free options

This cafe is always super busy but it is because it is really good. The coffee is great and the breakfasts are really yummy. Parking is a bit tricky though.

A while ago I went to red cup for the umpteenth time to enjoy a coffee and meal with my husband. I liked the cafe so much from previous experiences that when I got my meal, cut into my poached eggs, and not only the yellows, but all the egg whites ran all over the plate soaking everything on the plate, I didn't complain. The egg white was water. We went to pay and I was happy to pay, till [Redacted identifying information] asked how was the meal. I politely said "not the best today, the egg whites were watery and ran over the whole plate, but it's okay I come here a lot". She scolded me and said "what's what poached eggs are darling". My husband said "yeah we know what poached eggs are, it's just the whites ran all over the plate." She then pulled the cook out from the kitchen and said "this is the cook, he can explain to you what a poached egg is so you don't order that in future." I was embarrassed and begged for it not to be necessary. The cook came out annoyed and said in future if I wished to dine there I should request hard poached eggs. I escaped and didn't go back for some time.
Yesterday, my sister went in with my mum for the first time without her little toddler. They ordered full meals and coffees, then my sister said "can I also get the Vegemite on toast I normally get for my daughter, it's really delicious and we will share it. The waiter said it's a kids meal but he will see what they can do. No more was spoken, the meals came out, and upon paying, she realised that they decided to charge her double for the kids meal being that she's not a kid. It was the exact same meal, and mum and her had already ordered full meals and coffees too. Someone really should have explained they were going to do that before they finished and went to pay. Cool cafe / service is really awful

Food is average, very expensive for what is served and how large the portions are. Staff are not very friendly

A point of differentiation in a suburb better known for its asian cafes.
However, Red Cup seems to take advantage of this a little.
Whilst the menu is decent - interesting breakfast & lunch options presented well with decent ingredients, the surrounds/decor are trendy, and the service a step above the asian box hill standard, it is extremely over priced.
$4.70 for a regular coffee/mocha (which was bland and watery), $18.50 for a 'bubble and squeak' baked potato, pumpkin, spinach, poached egg and hollandaise sauce served in a dish not much bigger than a saucer.
I leave readers to judge for themselves.

I could not survive without getting my morning coffee here on the way to work. And the food is fabulous too. The staff are very friendly - and Sue and Jenna in particular make my mornings so much brighter. It is always busy and bustling and is well worth the visit. Recommend the bircher muesli for breakfast and the pâté for lunch and the muffins are to die for :)

This cafe is my favourite in Box Hill area. The coffee is really good and I drink Soy lattes and its harder to find a cafe that has good soy milk. It has a nice feel and a very popular cafe. It has outdoor seating out the front and enough seating inside. The food is nice I had the zucchini fritters big serving and really nice. They have a range of cakes that look really good and gluten free options. Definately worth going even if its just for a coffee it really is great coffee!

I have dined at Red Cup a number of times for lunch and have never been disappointed with the food or service. The last two times, however, I noticed that the cleanliness of the place had slipped. There were heaps of blow flies all over the window sills, which could have been taken care of with a quick vac.

Approximate cost: $25

The Red Cup is my favourite cafe in the Eastern suburbs and has little competition. A bit on the expensive side I suppose but well worth it. Great venue, very funky, lovely staff and the best hot chocolate in Melbourne in my opinion!

Approximate cost: $7.50 - $19
