Staying nearby for a few days we decided to check out the hotel for a few drinks and a meal. The hotel is very nice I'm sure, but when we saw the menu prices, we decided to forego the meal and grab some pizzas. The games room is ok for anyone wanting to have a flutter but the dinner menu is not suitable for most people on a tight budget.

Always welcoming from reception through to the bar and restaurant staff.Modern, clean, up to date facilities, quiet rooms and well located .Perfect for business or holiday makers.
I both recommend "The Red Lion" to family, friends and business associates when in Ballarat.

My partners fave place to eat! very well presented and honestly, delicious! I just find the price to be a little frightening. Between us we ate 2 meals, 1 starter and 1 desert and it came to over $90! And we didn't even have any alcohol!

Pretty disappointing experience. Porterhouse steaks were large but very chewy. Served with bland mashed potatoes, carrots & beans - bore fest. We both chose the Bearnaise sauce as we had never tried it before and were really looking forward to it as something different. Unfortunately it was not made fresh in-house as one would expect for a $32.50 meal, but gross muck that anyone can buy in a plastic squeeze bottle from the supermarket. Most places we have been to lately have been capable of making their steak sauces fresh, so I don't see why The Red Lion can't - they are trying to pass themself off as a restaurant but are serving mediocre cafeteria quality food. Also had terrible music videos playing the entire time to further lower the quality of the experience. On the up side, the service was really good - pity what's on offer is so substandard.

Approximate cost: $32.50

Hi Toonunit, we agree wholeheartedly with your comments. While we have found the service component to be most agreeable, the quality of the food on offer is a let-down and no place for any self-respecting foodie. In addition to this, it would appear that the establishment in question tends to focus upon attracting the younger populous, who flood the place after work and on weekends. Thanks for the honest appraisal. Reeces

Food here isn't bad, a little hit and miss at times. I have had really good meals here and I have pretty bad ones too, but overall its a pretty nice venue. The bar is really nice for some after work drinks with a really decent range of beers on tap.

Approximate cost: $18

Great service in the cafe by the bar staff and excellent staff in the gaming room. The food is great value and tastes good too. Love the Wednesday, Thursday $12 Parmys. The is a lot of variety on the menu and my kids love the kids meals and desserts. Although the staff all seem friendly and approachable, I wouldn't exactly call the main manager approachable. He often looks grumpy and stands around a lot not doing much, which I think is unfair for all the staff members.

Pleasant surroundings and generally good distance between tables. Staff are generally friendly and efficient. Menu has good variety but standard of food can vary significantly at times. Generally a very enjoyable experience going there: especially Friday's after work

Approximate cost: $20
