This restaurant has gone downhill over the years. The dishes are mainly sauce with not much chicken/fish/veg. Prices are average compared with other Indian restaurants in the area.

thank you for your comment, we do not serve according to our moods,
fish is weighed & priced @ 180 to 200 grams, meat is weighed at 220 to 250 grams always more quantity for a take away dish of 500 ml.
we like to inform that we got proper chefs in the kitchen finished off their studies back in India and Australian trained. we pride our selves serving the best of the best. may be you need to go to the restaurants that serve quantity over quality..

Warm and friendly atmosphere with delicious food to match!
Service can be a little hit and miss on busier nights but the food is always fresh and cooked without being tremendously greasy.

I haven't been there in a few years, usually I find Indian food a bit same same no matter what you order. Every dish was interesting and different and tasty! The service could have been a bit better, we think they were a bit too busy attending to the takeaway side of the business to offer prompt table service.

Great restaurant with authentic and tantalising food. I have never had a bad meal here. Awesome place to eat in and the take away is fantastic also.

Amazing! I had to order a large meal for a staff dinner and the staff here were excellent. The food was out of this world and the quantities were very generous. The cost was so reasonable that we intend to use them regularly. My staff LOVED this meal very much. The service was above an beyond!

Booking for 7pm for 4. Menus were requested twice and then unfortunately we had to go up and ask for them. Entrees served after 40 minutes. Main meals were served 1 1/2 hours later after asking twice how long they would be. As we left we asked to speak to a Manager - no one available. Though the ambience of the Restaurant is very soothing and the decor very pleasing, yet again it was the lack of service that has let this Restaurant down. It seems that reviews from last year state the same. I did phone afterwards to advise of our experience and was treated very poorly. They might not care if they lose us as customers , but excuses of being busy or all patrons are happy to wait for food cooked to order didn't cut it. Restaurants such as Rockpool in Southbank have excellent food & beverages and there isn't such a wait with an excuse given it's not preheated food. Sadly Saffron should look at this a bit more seriously and not accuse a patron of not being a 'fine diner' in order to dismiss their lack of service or professionalism.

The place is so cute, we were shocked with the service in particular. Most indian places are so quick with food and table service. These guys seem to have a good relationship with the locals. The night we went was very busy, so perhaps we picked a bad time? We were disappointed with our dishes too. Meat wasn't tender and flavour lacked the punch most indian has.

The food is to die for. I have been going to Saffron Cottage ever since it opened and have always food the food mouth watering :P. The only frustrating thing is it takes sometimes a little too long for the food to come out.

Saffron Cottage is a truly excellent Restaurant. The food is authentic Indianand can be cooked mild medium or hot whatever your preference. The staff are attentive and friendly without being obtrusive. The setting is beautiful particularly in Summer when you can sit on the balcony and take in the views of the Dandenong Ranges.

Approximate cost: $15.00
