Happened to visit Sambal for lunch on a late Sunday afternoon. It was quite packed for lunch at that time, which gave me a good vibe to start with. We ordered the basics, Mee Goreng, Nasi Goreng and Char Kway Teao. I must say that I was absolutely thrilled with all the 3. My wife was not too thrilled with the Mee Goreng. Anybody with a slight interest in Malay food should definitely give this a shot. Its tucked up all the up in North Ryde, which might be a bit of a ride. But hey, there is public transport - Macquarie Park station right next door.
Thanks Peter for recommending this. :-)

Pretty good malaysian/singaporean hawker food can be found here. The fried chicken is way too sweet for my taste but their sunday specials are great and very authentic.
Some dishes are exceptionally good, the overall rate of the food are somewhat satisfactory. The ambiance is considered good because of the wooden table and chairs, you can also sit outside to soak the sun. It is targeted mainly to people who works in north ryde area.
Approximate cost: $20
Loved the Satay chicken sticks, the rest of the food was great also. They get a large lunch crowd through for take aways. It is worth booking a seat if you want to dine in because some days they get busy.
Very arrogant staff given that they are situated in North ryde on a busy road next to Mcdonalds and KFC in a carpark. Quite expensive for Asian food given location and also comparatively to other restaurants. Also charge $3.50 per head for corkage which is a bit rich.
Approximate cost: $22
I have been dining at Sambal since it opened, and the food quality is superb. The sar hor fun is very good, as well as the prawn mee and chicken rice. Although the range of dishes offered is a little limited, the quality is not compromised. The service is relatively friendly, but there is little atmosphere
They've definitely extended their range since 2008 and the quality is just as amazing.
Consistenly good Malaysian Fare - Everything is really good/authentic in taste. Chicken Rice, Roti, Noodles, all really tasty and not expensive. $9.90 buys a huge plate of chicken rice (boneless chicken) with soup. Tastes just like in Singapore/Malaysia. Buy some Kueh (coconut jellies) to take home - if they last that long - you'll probably finish them in the car!
Approximate cost: $10-15
