Another great experience with Sam’s tailoring. Sam made alterations and repairs to a 1940s vintage dress and it was absolutely perfect. Quality of work was superb and the price very reasonable for the amount of work required. Thanks so much Sam!

Sam had made the effort to come into the store especially for this appointment after having surgery the previous week. I brought in a day dress that was about one size too large for me and needed to be taken in and to be shortened at the sleeves. The particular style of the dress together with my personal preferences has made both the decison-making and the actual execution rather demanding. Sam and his team were impressively mindful of my opinions and has offered very constructive and professional advice. They are more than happy to put considerable amount of efforts into perfecting every details. As a result, the dress came back to me exactly the way I wanted — they got it right at the first round, with all the details carefully considered and crafted.

Sam, Grace and the rest of the team are such warm-hearted and considerate people. The interations between us feel like reunions with old friends. They make you feel at home the moment you walk in, and they'd propose candid suggestions they consider best for your needs.

I did find the services a bit pricey, but considering the profassionalism of the team, I would in no doubt recommend Sam's Alterations for those who would like their garments to be attentively and beautifully transformed.

I'm not one to write reviews or to a persons business and livelihood however, I had a number of alterations to be done to some expensive pieces and the reviews for Sam's Clothing Alterations all sounded positive, maybe I was unlucky but I felt it necessary to write up my experience.

The agreed price for the works was high, however I was prepared to pay a little more for a level of quality, care and attention to detail... I wish I never had.

An Oscar Hunt made to measure jacket from a few years back which fit perfectly other than lacking a little shape to the mid section was taken in to to the point I couldnt breath in the blazer. All I had wanted was some adjustment to the sides. I trusted the team, they were the experts but the unstructured, cotton jacket was taken in from the back so much that there was so much pulling at the mid section and the shoulder. After multiple attempts by the team to rectify, the end result is now a blazer which is too tight to use a phone with it on and at risk of tearing the arms/back one day. There is no material left at the back to let out. Ruined.

My ACNE studio's jeans, bought on sale a size too big and just needed an inch taken out of the width of the leg. Could not even get these on my legs when I tried them on the first time. After 3 more visits and being made to feel I had a problem, the jeans finally fit. The issue here like the other garments, the team took them in WAY too much and then it was a painful process opening them out to the correct size. We got there in the end.

Another item, a beautiful, brand new ACNE Studios jacket now has a number of tears throughout the internal lining as a result of the 'tailoring' process. You can only see these when you're not wearing the jacket. I'll live with it but the fact is that it shouldn't happen with any decent tailor and no-one even cared to mention this when I picked the jacket up. I felt that absolutely no care was given to any of my clothes. I was later refunded for the cost of the alterations to the jacket. Apart from this I was generally pleased with the work to the jacket.

Repairs to another blazer had not even been completed after 4 weeks of waiting on my items. I get it, they're busy and I would definitely not have written a review or even mentioned it had I not been so incredibly disappointed in the rest of the experience and end result of Sam's Clothing Alterations.

Look elsewhere is my suggestion

Sam's working is nothing short of flawless.

I have visited him on two seperate occasions, exactly one year apart, with dresses that needed last minute alterations for cocktail functions. Both dresses required quite extensive and intricate tailoring and I cannot believe how beautifully they came back to me.

I recently took a stunning red dress that needed a replacement zipper, and the replacement gold zipper Sam found looked 10 times better than the original! The dress fits like a glove.

Sam and Gracie are both such honest, lovely, welcoming people that never make you feel as if you're asking for too much. They truly listen to your requests and will go above and beyond to ensure that the quality and craftsmanship is second to none.

While you may pay slightly more than what you would elsewhere, Sam is by far the best in Melbourne, and most likely in Australia. If he cannot fix it, no one can!

Quality: I brought in several difficult items to be tailored (a linen jacket that needed alteration to both the width and length of sleeves and needed to be taken in at the front and back, a dress that Sam created a waistline on from scratch, a heavy wool coat to be taken in, and a jumpsuit to have the waist shortened). Sam altered every piece with perfect invisible seams and a perfect fit to my proportions. Absolutely flawless, even the difficult pieces. Thank you!

Customer service: Grace and Sam are wonderful people. They give honest advice about what is possible to alter and what they recommend, but they are equally happy to go with your choice if it differs. The items were finished on time and at the price quoted. They were kind and attentive when I visited the shop and they are very trustworthy.

Value: The service might be more expensive than other places but you are paying for the excellent quality and attention to detail. Therefore I think it is good value.

This review has been a long time coming - my wife did extensive research for a highly skilled tailor as both our coats needed tailoring. She found Sam's Clothing Alterations and the rest is history. Sam and Grace provided excellent customer service and Sam expertly tailored our coats to the T. A few months later, I returned to Sam's to get two suits altered. The suits needed quite a lot of work done and given my budget, Sam was upfront about which alterations he thought were best investing in at the time, and which alterations I could leave for later. Recently I purchased a beautiful shirt to wear to a special occasion. I loved the shirt except the the sleeves were too long. It is a silk shirt. I went to several alterations places and they all said nothing could be done to alter the length of sleeves due the intricate design and delicate material. I searched the web looking for options and I am so glad I found Sams Alterations Company. He did an amazing job and my shirt is now perfect. VERY HAPPY !!!! Faye

I had a suit in need of altering for a formal, the suit was my father's and when I wore it, it looked as though I was drowning in fabric. Sam is a true magician, a master in his craft. Sam's alteration left my suit fitting me like a glove and making me look superb on the night. After six months of hard work getting into shape, the downside was that my wardrobe no longer fits and great suits started to look very ill fitted.
There started the difficult journey of finding a tailor that I could trust my best suits to.
All I can say is that Sam the Tailor is a true master of his profession, he not only made all he alterations perfectly, he also corrected the original fit of the Jackets & Pants to fit my body type. Absolutely brilliant work, and I am so happy with the results.
When I left my clothing with Sam & Gracie, they told me exactly how much it was going to cost and when it would be ready and they delivered exactly on what they said.
In fact when I tried the pants of two suits on after they had been altered, Sam wasn't 100% happy (even though I was) and insisted on making a final adjustment (no further cost) before I collected.
I only had to introduce myself once when I first went to visit Sam & Gracie, and they remembered my name from then on. I feel absolutely welcome when I go to their store, and confident that my clothing will come out looking perfect.
I have numerous other suits, coats etc that I will be progressively taking for alterations, and look forward to catching up with Sam & Gracie.

After extensive search via the internet and reading reviews trying to find a tailor to do clothing alterations in the CBD, I decided to go see Sam in his shop.
Sam is an exceptional tailor I will even go as far and call him an artisan of his craft.
Nothing is too hard for him and he is patient and listens to what you require altered, he also never rushes with you and takes his time so both you and he know what would be the end result from the alterations.
His pricing is more than reasonable, it is like the famous saying “you pay for what you get”.
I had the following items altered, a jacket that the sleeve length needed shortened, numerous shirts taken in as they were too large in the body, also a few of my favorite pairs of jeans tapered in the leg.
Sam is polite and has a warm character about him, when you come into his shop he that makes you feel like you are visiting an old friend.
His partner Grace is a joy to deal with, she has a very bubbly personality that you just want to stay in the shop all day and chat to her.
I would recommend Sam to anyone that wants alterations done anytime without fail.

Outstanding, transformed a custom made suit bought over the internet that had pants too long and baggy, sleeve length too long, suit jacket and vest too big (I'm 6'2" and lean and it was fitted for Barry Hall or Hulk Hogan) in 3 weeks into a perfect groomsman suit. Can't thank Sam and his team highly enough. Definitely worth the money.

I've just had two dresses altered by Sam. From being unwearable they now fit like a glove and I feel like I have gorgeous new clothes. I've also had repairs done on some favourite clothes which I can't bear to part with (including some delicate and worse for wear designer things) and he has done a lovely job of mends that can't be seen. He has a real eye for what looks good and a true skill as a tailor. Fast and also very reasonably priced for the very high quality of his work.

Sam is your guy if you need an alteration which requires problem solving. I purchased a beautiful dress a little while ago and it no longer zips up at the back (too much over-indulgence...) and I needed the dress for a wedding in less than a week! I was almost giving up but Sam was able to cut some material from the floaty end of the dress, relocate the zipper and attach the extra material to the back of the dress! The work performed was seamless and the dress fitted perfectly. Sam managed to get this all done in three days, just in time for the wedding! Very happy customer and would definitely recommend.

I recently stumbled across SAMs alterations while looking to get a dress fixed. I had previously taken the dress to two different tailors, one of which was a renound suit tailor whom our family has used for years, both refused to touch the dress due to the difficulty and nature of the material. The dress in questions was organza silk which I had absolutely ruined. I tad torn it in numerous areas both on the front and back, inclusive of the inside lining. After speaking to both tailors I was certain the dress couldn't be fixed. I decided to take it to SAMs as one final attempt to save this garment. I was immediately greeted and made to feel comfortable.
Sam attended to me and conversed with me honestly about the job. He assured me he could fix the dress and went on to explain how he would do so and how much time he required. It took him just over one week to transform my dress.
I was absolutely blown away by the result. The dress was not only fixed but returned to its former state. By looking at the dress I was unable to find where I had previously torn it, it was not until I saw 'before' pictures that I was able to identify where the dress had been split.
The service and expertise provided by Sam and all his staff are unlike any I have experienced. They are genuine, professional and honest.
I cannot recommend him enough, and I would not consider taking any of my clothes to anyone other than Sam. Thank you for saving my dress !!! (I promise I will never bring it in to be fixed again)

I have dealt with quite a couple of tailors in Melbourne including a few referred by good brands such as Ted Baker, but I would have to say that out of all Sam is the best tailor I have ever come across! Apart from delivering an unmatched quality in alteration work, Sam is also able to provide you with suggestions about styling and fashion trends! To date I think I have had at least 5 sets of suits, 4-5 suit jackets and 4 trousers altered by Sam, all were of absolute excellent finishes and suited me like a glove, most importantly these items looked untouched like they are just off the racks! All in all very happy with Sam's work and by the way Grace in the shop makes wonderful coffees! Keep up the good work!
