Having, unfortunately, spend most of my childhood holidays in Bali with no sunscreen, I have quite a few areas that need keeping an eye on. I was sent here on the recommendation of my father.

I was very happy with how thorough they were and the cleanliness of the facilities. It's somewhere I will definitely keep using when we are back up that way next year.

I have been disappointed by the service at Skin Scan Capalaba. I had been a regular patient there going for my annual skin scan (I have fair skin and a tendency to burn. But I am super careful now as an adult and am ALWAYS covered up now. Sun damage from childhood though!!)
On 2 occassions I have alerted the doctors to an mark that was concerning me. In both cases, I had to insist that the doctor do a biopsy and remove the trouble area. In both cases, the patholgy report came back to say that it WAS a carcinoma (very lucky to have detected early and further skin was removed after the diagnosis). In BOTH cases, the doctor told me that I was lucky that I used my intuition and pushed for the removal.
I know errors can occur, but I was disappointed that it happened in the same way for a second time. I felt that a specialist doctor should be able to detect early troublesome spots etc. (especially when I have repeatedly told them that I prefer to have ANYTHINg removed if in doubt. I am not precious about my looks and vain about having scars).
I have never been back there and will continue with my current doctor for skin scans.
Treatment was bulk billed

Hi Nickya. I was advised to see a real skin specialist for a scan, so I went to Dr Cliff Rosendahl, who is a Fellow of the Skin Cancer College of Australia and New Zealand, formerly the Skin Cancer Society of Australia. His practice is at 5 Larbonya Cres. Capalaba. He also lectures at the School of Medicine at UQ. Those are real qualifications!

With a fair complexion and a family history of melanoma, undertaking a regular skin cancer check is vitally important. Having moved to a new district I sought a friend's advice on appropriate clinics in the area. She immediately suggested Skin Scan and told me that she had regularly used them over a number of years. Upon attending Skin Scan I was very pleased to have followed my friend's suggestion.

Located opposite the new Capalaba Spotlight, Skin Scan is easy to find and has parking out the front dedicated exclusively to the practice. I was able to arrange an appointment at a convenient time in less than a week from my phone call and the consultation was bulk billed. Taking somewhat less than 15 minutes, the scan was undertaken with the latest technology, dermoscopy, which is a special microscope which allows the doctor to see underneath the skin. All images are enlarged on a screen for the patient to view. The whole process was painless and efficient and I even left the surgery with free samples of sunscreen and other skin care products. I'll definitely be using Skin Scan for next year's skin cancer check.
