They have a nice selection of Taiwanese food and service is quite good. However, the place is small and can really get crowded especially in the afternoon. Their serving of taiwanese chicken is huge and worth the price.
not a bad go to dinner place, really close to melbourne central and really filling asian cuisine and reasonably priced
staff were prompt and even though it was really busy we were seated and waited on relatively quickly
the food itself wasn't memorable, but like i said it'll hit the spot when you're hungry
I am always on the lookout for authentic Taiwanese food considering the fact that I'm half Taiwanese so I was overjoyed when Taiwan Cafe opened it's doors here in Melbourne.
I've been to the cafe numerous times and my all time favourites from all those mouthwatering dishes would have to be the beef noodles, oysters omelette as well as fried drumlets. Their great value for money lunch boxes are worth a go too !!
However, there are some downsides to this place. There aren't a lot of room for us to move around in as all the tables and chairs are being placed very closely to one another and don't expect excellent services from the waiters and waitresses. And if my memory does not fail me, only cash is accepted here as well.
Nevertheless, it is still one of my favourite eateries and I will definitely return for more !!!
great review renee28
I was going out in the city with my friends, and this was our 2nd choice for dinner (our 1st choice was full). So basically we didn't have high expectations... but wow, I ended up more than pleasantly surprised.
The restaurant was slightly cramped, but no more so than you'd expect in Taiwan, which almost makes it more authentic! Also, the $10 price tag for rice boxes and noodle soup is great value, considering most come with a deep fried piece of chicken or pork on the side. Yum! I'm a milkshake connoisseur as well, so I always enjoy exotic milkshake flavours - which a place like Taiwan Cafe is also great for. Their Peach Milkshake was the perfect topping for a great meal.
The service was understandably a bit overwhelmed at times, but still more than reasonable considering their staff numbers in ratio to their customers. Overall though, this doesn't deter it from being a 5 star experience in my books, considering its price range and subsequent quality for that price.
Approximate cost: $10
This place looks amazing. Thanks for sharing your experience!
they're so cheap hey - usually $10 doesn't fill me up as much xx

LOVE the rice box!! the price range is reasonable. one thing the restaurant is not spacious .. so you can not seat comfortably. but I definitely dine there again because of the food.
Approximate cost: $10
thanks for that info. I'll give it a try.
If you have not been to Taiwan before, you must come here to try the Taiwanese food. It was similar but not as good as those in Taiwan. This cafe is probably the most authentic Taiwan cafe in Melbourne. I have been to this cafe thrice and still intend to dine there again. The main costs about 10-12 dollars, but it tastes good that you don't mind spending that money. You should also try the appetizer and the bubble tea. The texture of the bubble is similar to those in Taiwan.
Approximate cost: $10-12
thanks for that info. I';ll give it a try.
i didn't get to try the bubble teas out, but i do have to say their milkshakes were pretty amazing xx
